On the Web page there are links to the already modified firmware files. It tricks customised firmware to accept firmware from a different operator.
1. If you have Telkom branded B315s, it is easy. Correct version for download is "936_SouthAfricaTelkom.to.Polkomtel.zip". Polkomtel firmware is the most popular version people voted for. Follow instruction and it is done.
2. If you have Cell C branded B315s, you can download version 21.311.05.01.1185 directly from Huawei Web site: http://download-c.huawei.com/download/downloadCenter?downloadId=55310&version=176588&siteCode=pl , but you would have to modify firmware headers by yourself and follow the same gudeline. It seems to be a generic (non-branded version).

Just browsed over couple of cases where B315s with firmware 21.311 failed during downloading large files. I read below:

So I think in firmware 21.313 Huawei reduced transmission power in order to lower numbers of warranty returns. You will see it as reduced signal level indicator or reduced download speed (as some members reported here).

B315s available for R1999 at Makro until midnight on 30 May 2016
For those who might want to buy the Huawei B315s completely off-contract, Makro has it on promotion at R1999 on their "Big IT sale" today - see here.
Not as cheap as some of the subsidised deals (of course), but not bad for a standalone.
You can purchase in-store until closing time today, or online until midnight tonight.

Anyone have this router? Cell c currently have some nice deals - worth getting? ( already have an Huawei Mifi which works great)

Does it have the Telkom firmware ?
Hi guys, my B315 asked to download a firmware update yesterday, what I did. Now it doesn't switch on. Tried to roll back by keeping pressed power+wps keys but no luck. Resetting the router by inserting a pin in the reset hole also doesn't work. The only light that is on is the power one and if I keep the power button pressed, it briefly blinks after about 3 or 4 seconds. Looks like I got myself a brick....
Any ideas?

No I don't think so. Seems standard Huawei, and works with MTN sim
Is there a distinguishing feature of the Telkom firmware so I can check? And what limitations does it have?

Brand of the firmware is recognised by the last section of the frimware version. By example:
21.313.03.00.1232 - CellC
21.313.03.00.372 - Telkom
You can find it on information page after login in to the router.
I don't think router is bricked. Only power light blowing indicate that router is still in factory mode. In this mode router responds to IP address 192.168.1.1 and is ready for flashing.
Download and run as admin B593s-22 Multicast Upgrade Tool. If your router is from Telkom, flash it with Telkom firmware file. I posted download links on the previous page, but this one is the same file I downloaded directly from Huawei Web site: http://unlock4modems.com/downloads/huawei-b315s-936-21-313-03-00-372-ussd-telkom-south-africa/
If your router is from Cell C ask Cell C rep on this forum whether they could send it for you. Please send me a copy, as I also need to reflash my router. Sometimes after switching power on the WiFi light goes on, but it shouldn't, as WiFi is disabled on my router.

Thank you sajunky for the answer. I connect it to the computer with an ethernet cable and doesn't respond to that address, the browser says there's no connection. I am no expert, should the Multicast upgrade tool be able to see it? Is through ethernet that I should connect it? Telkom support reccomended to take it to the store but I'd like to try and fix it before that.
Multicast tool do not look for a particular device. It sends multicast packets and router is supposed to pick it up. Some people don't want depend on multicast facility passing over different LAN segments, and suggest to configure your network card for static IP in the same LAN segment. It is why I gave you IP address of the router (for a sake).
The work on multicast tool is simple:
- Run Tool and chose your LAN (wired) Ethernet interface card.
- Select the file with firmware and press start button.
- Observe lights on the router (refer to links on the previous page).
- When lights indicate it is finished, press Stop button and continue with terminating factory mode (if it hasn't been already).
I see that in some cases it goes to USB green mode and you have to connect router by USB cable and issue AT commands. In other cases router restarts in normal mode.
If router is still under warranty, I would take it to the service, of course.

My firmware upgrade worked fine last night, nearly had a heart attack because it wouldn't pick up LTE, reset the router and was working fine again.
No clue one how to solve your problem, so good luck on that !!

I have also so far upgraded 3 to the latest firmware and they all worked fine. Also had the issue of no LTE on one of them as per blowdart18 above but same fix just powered off and on again. On the one at home I did not notice any difference in terms of RSRP and SINR in fact I tried a re-alignment today of the antenna with 2 new towers that have recently come online in my area, but to no avail. I had to stick to my original tower that I have used for the last 6 months.
From the point of view of router stability, I have had some "lock-ups" over the past 4 months specifically when my router at home has locked onto one of the other towers in my area, with a lower signal and then just stayed on that tower, until I have intervened by rebooting and it then goes back to the tower with the stronger signal. So I am hoping that this is one of the issues that as now been resolved in terms of stability on the new router firmware.
