Will the Huawei E220 work with a Macbook? Will I get all the accompanying software/drivers when I buy Huawei for use with a Macbook.

Ok so if i have a Macbook... what options do i have if there are issues with MTN and the drivers?

I can't use the PCMCIA card i already have... AND i can't use the E220 unit...???

Maybe MTN should spend less time in other countries and spend some more time in fixing their local support!

Mac Drivers

I purchased a a modem today from MTN. It works fine on my PC, but when I try it on the MAC, with the Vodacom software no joy, because the software shuts down as soon as it sees a non vodacom card.

Is there any update on the drivers for MAC from MTN?

Thanks

there is an application that i heard might work: Launch2Net - perhaps u could try that - i haven't yet because i'm still in the process of figuring out what the best option would be to connect to the net.

It's a GPRS/HSDPA modem dialer if i understand it correctly.

I think its a Huawei problem not an MTN problem.

Correct,

If anyone would like to try (at your own risk) (Test Mac Drivers) PM me and I'll be more than happy to email it to you

Looked at the webiste, it seems the software costs $98 !! I am preferably looking for something for free, like vodacom's ?

I've got an MTN contract - and i'm wondering whether i should get an additional MTN data contract with a USB modem for my mac.... cause i know MTN and i know the coverage all over the country in terms of EDGE/HSDPA etc etc

But i can get the Vodacom one cheaper.... AND the MTN drivers don't work on a mac.... so should i wait? or should i get a vodacom and possibly suffer only GPRS speeds in some rural little town with vodacom?

Im willing to try anything MTNDD - but if it works - does it work well?? or is it a thing where u suffer to make it work - then once it workks it works only a LITTLE bit in something like ONLY Edge mode... and then it breaks and u have to reboot your machine to make it work again?

or is it: "Struggle to make it work, then when it works... it's 100%"??

Ok i will report back... that the drivers you've sent me work...

I'm typing this on my black little MacBook with my brand new (black) MTN USB data card - connected to the mtn network on the new 2Gig Bundle thing.

Was a bit tricky to figure out which to read 1st. But here are some instructions for someone who wants to try it in future.

When you get the drivers etc do this:
1. open and read User_Guide_to_HUAWEI_Data_Card_for_Mac_OS_X_(V1.3)(E620andE220).xls

2. do NOT plug the unit in 1st - 1st install the PKG file

3. continue with installation according to step 1

I used username mtn and password mtn. And i used Card Driver 2.6

It told me to run a Huawei mobile application located in my Applications folder... which wasn't there.... MTNDD - did u send me everything i needed - cause my connection works - but i don't have a Dashboard.

Anyway - it's working for now.

Thanks :)

There is no dashboard at this stage that's being worked on those are the physical drivers which will only enable the connection for now

Now another question.... how would i find out how much bandwidth i'm using/have left?

Other than having to phone and wait for HOURS?

Is there a way to sms from another phone to figure out what ur usage is?

If you with MTNSP you can use MTNACTIVE or Ginngs's tool

MTNDD

well i'm not with mtnsp anymore... and i'm quite glad i don't have to phone them anymore... it got SERIOUSLY annoying

Ginngs's tool??

It sounds kinky!
