Huawei E620 data card & USSD commands

Hi there

I did a project using a generic E220 modem and discovered that the Mobile Connect program sends a 'AT$QCDMG' command on the PC UI com port. I would like to know if anybody has an idea of getting the modem back to a state where the PC UI com port responds to normal AT commands. (Without plugging it out and back in)

I presume there is still no updated FW available for the E620 via the online update?

I have received an update for the MTN dashboard, but my E620 is still using FW version 11.16.08.01.00, which doesn't appear to support USSD commands... :-(

(Bump...)

Is there any news on new FW for the E620? My FW does not support USSD commands. :(

I could not get USSD to work, even on GPRS only and with MTN SIM; my firmware on MTN E620 is 11.16.08.01.00.

Generic firmware for E220?

I have a Telia (swedish operator) branded E620 that isn't working very well. I got this card in July -06 so I guess the firmware is pretty old. For comparison I just got a E220 with which I am able to get full bandwith downloads (45 - 50 kbytes/s) as compared to 2 - 12 for the E220 card.

What I really would like is a firmware that removes the network lock, but that might be hoping for too much.

Same firmware, same results.

Ditto.

I phoned Huawei SA. Did not get much help there. They only referred me to MTN's web site. There is a 60 MB file that one can download. I am not sure if that is only the MTN dashboard S/W and modem drivers, or if it includes updated firmware as well.

Question:

Will the "Online Update" feature of the MTN dashboard S/W updates the firmware as well, if and when MTN makes updated firmware available?

I have just downloaded E620 software from Huawei's web site. The software version is HOST01.11.17.01.04.03.

Unfortunately the setup does not include a firmware upgrade as well. My card's firmware is 11.16.08.01.00 which does not support USSD commands.

When will MTN make new firmware available? I want to use the *141# USSD command for a balance inquiry.

Otherwise, do MTN have a free service to do a balance inquiry via SMS (like Vodacom) ?

I've got an E620 with the same problem - USSD command not working. Been watching this thread for a firmware update. I cant believe how much trouble a simple firmware update is! Did I just misread it several times or is there a link somewhere to a simple self-extracting archive that will update the firmware on my card to the latest? Honesly, if mp3-players, dvd-writers and just about any other piece of tech in existence can do it, why cant huawei/mtn?

My guess is they don't think it is worth the trouble to make the existing firmware update available to their customers, perhaps some mass action from E620 owners is required. Keep bugging MTN and Huawei, go to Hello Peter if necessary.

Well, I thought that was what we're trying with this thread?
