Huawei HiLink modems (E303, E3131, etc.)

.rar is a compression file format (like .zip). You can use this software to access the .rar file.

But if your modem is indeed HiLink, then I have no further ideas why you are having your described problems.

What happened to the good old days of DOS?? At least stuff worked back then...*sigh*

I think I'm going to have to return this thing and try something else. Thanks for the try :)

Autorun could be disabled on your PC. When you insert the modem open the mass storage drive and run the install file.
Once the installation is complete your browser will open displaying the user interface.
If it does not open your browser you will have to disable your local area network and refresh http://192.168.1.1.

Autorun isn't disabled (I don't think)as I've successfully installed other devices recently - when I insert the E3131 modem a window pops up asking if I want to allow the user interface to make changes to my computer's hard drive. I click 'yes' and.....nothing obvious happens. Laptop doesn't even appear to recognise that there's an external device plugged in, i.e. if I go to explorer, under My Computer the only thing that appears is OS (C:) and DVD RW Drive (D:). No USB or any other device.

I have tried disabling LAN and every other network connection I can find and refreshing 192.168.1.1 and rebooting several times with no success.

That is terrible, do you have another computer on which you can test the modems' functionality?

One with Windows Vista.... *whiney voice* do I haaaaaave to??? LOL! But good point. Will give it a shot.

Remove all the USB Controller in your device manager. Windows will reinstall them when you refresh.
Thereafter reinsert the modem and hope for the best. :p

I don't know whether to be p-d off or grateful that it was such a simple thing that worked... :D Thanks a mill LaraC, it seems to have worked. Just hope its stable and doesn't need to be redone! Much appreciated!

Have faith, Windows will prevail... :D

I have a E3131 with 22.318.27.00.00 firmware and it won't go into serial mode.

This one has an IP address of 192.168.8.1

I wonder if Huawei is trying to put a stop to these downgrades.

Any assistance will be appreciated.

Has anyone tried putting the HiLink E3272 in a router? I've ordered this modem now, and have an old MR3420 (not v2), and then a Dlink DSL-2750u. Would they work, and if not, can anyone suggest a router that would work with this LTE modem?

Thanks!

FYI, tried on a 3276, not a 3272, but it should be similar ....

I've tried the Asus 330N3G and a TP-Link TL-MR3020 (aka WR-702n).

The Asus running standard firmware (latest available), limited the throughput to approx 20+ Mbit/s.
It (the Asus) also works with OpenWRT, but I didn't manage to get the 3276 running, since one kernel
module wasn't available.

The TP-Link got me 70+ MBit/s, but I had OpenWRT running on it, instead of the stock firnmware
(didn't try stock).

When it comes to OpenWRT most routers will probably work, as long as they have an USB port for
the modem.

Note: my tests were made on OpenWRT 12.09 final, 14.07 final was released approx a week ago.

Read my post regarding OpenWRT modules for HiLink devices here:
http://bluekeane.wordpress.com/2012...link-3g-usb-dongle-on-openwrt-tp-link-wr703n/

If you want a 702n/MR3020 on steroids, buy a modded version with 16 MB flash and 64 MB RAM on ebay.
Search for SLBOAT on eBay, it comes with OpenWRT preinstalled, but probably the 12.09, not 14.07.

3020 cheap enough so ordered one and will play around with it. Thanks for the info, much appreciated!

What exactly is the issue with Hilink modems? From a general user point of view.

What JimM said, plus they have a fixed IP address which could cause problems if you have a LAN or WAN network in the same range.

Ahh ok

I bought the Huawei E3531 off Takalot with the whole sale thing. I've been using E1752 for years so thought it would be a cheap upgrade plus I get awesome 3G in my area. Just so happens that CellC seems a bit screwed today....assume it's the rain and wind from last night...

Ok so far this thing seems like a POS...

The internet connection of the E3531 is weird, MyBB works fine but international sites time out. Swapped to the E1752 and all is fine...

Would the Hilink side of this be the cause? I'm eyeing ginggs posts about changing modems to serial.
