Huawei HiLink modems (E303, E3131, etc.)

ginggs, you the man!

Changed the router to 60 and both work now, can stream and surf.

Well I was a bit hasty, In regards to the 60, I assumed it worked on 10's so I upped the value from 50 to 60 (also tried 50 to 40), I think this allowed the router to not interfere with the modem. When I went back to check the value I saw that it changed to something like 4720, left it as that.

The router and the modem connected to PC and internet worked fine - win

Try and stream from PC to TV - semi win, I get an error now in the Win7 streaming software saying something around being 'unable to contact media server'.

I'm still not following what you mean by "changed the router". Anyway, what is the output of route print now?

Sorry, will explain.

I changed the routers interface metric to 60 initially, this allowed the modem to work. Then found that streaming still didn't work 100% so I thought I'd maybe lower the value to 40, when I went back to check the interface metric again on the router it showed 4 digits, something like 4270 and streaming still did not work. This was late at night so didn't carry on from there.

Ok so actually followed your instructions, changed router interface metric to 50 and streaming/internet working!

Thanks again :)

OK, got it. You changed the metric of the network interface that is plugged into your router (LAN).

Actually anything higher than 20 should work; 40, 50, 60 even 4270.

Hi Dear Friends

I need an advice to ıpdate my huawei e303 usb dongle to hi-link version? I saw most of users stated that it is possible, but I could not find any clear instruction to convert it to hi-link. It is very important for me, I will be appreciate for any help.

Thanks in Advance

I think what most people have done is to convert from HiLink to standard Huawei Serial USB.

I'm guessing that simply flashing the HiLink firmware is all that is required... However, there are no tutorials to be found and you'd do so at your own risk!

I would strongly recommend that you find someone who wants to swap a HiLink version of the modem for a USB serial version that uses Mobile Partner... :)

I saw an question in the beginning of this thread re: does the E3131 work with TP-Link TL-MR3420 router?
I don't know if this has been answered but I can report I use a E3131 flashed to modem mode with the stock TL-MR3420v1.
Router
Firmware Version:
3.13.1 Build 121123 Rel.57630n
Hardware Version:
MR3420 v1 00000000

Modem
Device name: E3131
Application port: COM15
Hardware Version: CH2E303SM
Firmware Version: 21.158.13.00.238
Software Version: 23.009.09.02.910

Sorry for bumping an old thread - but it popped up in google and is relevant to my needs.

Is there away to permanently leave the device in this mode? So I can use it in a car (which bombing out in the default mode)

You'll need to find and flash the non-HiLink version of the firmware for your device.

Tx. Did it asking for the password as per the link?

(And does commenting get it)

I can't remember what did last week, let alone 2 years ago :D
While I know I downloaded that version of firmware, the instructions on that page require you to purchase an unlock code and I know I didn't pay anything to flash my modem.
This tutorial looks familiar and I probably used it to flash my modem, although I can't be sure.

Of all the things I've lost, I miss my memory the most :D

Did it using the firmware you posted - it worked - now I have it as a modem - but it registers a drive with drivers - is that expected?

About to try it in the car - but Android logs mean little to me.
