Huawei Mate 20

Pity we're only getting those 2 colours. The other colours have that textured back.

Cool event last night!

I was reading phone arena review and they said fingerprint scanner is a bit iffy due to having to put pressure on the screen, how have you found it? Quick n easy or a bit cumbersome ?

When you press on fingerprint scanner and it fails, does face unlock turn on to unlock the phone?

I would think tho that with Face unlock + fingerprint it wouldn't really be an issue, either one will open up your phone quick enough.
The FPS does not require much pressure, it only really requires pressure when registering your Fingerprint, after that it's pretty good. It's fast but not as fast the Mate 10 Pro FPS, however the Facial Recognition works faster.

Having both setup is great, I often try do Fingerprint but the facial unlocks quicker, especially in good lighting.

Where the FPS can get quite iffy is if you have greasy or wet hands, but again, Facial Recognition saves it.

These seem mostly EMUI features that I have in Version 8 on my Mate 9
Yep, EMUI9 in terms of aesthetic is still very much the same, the main difference now is the new Gesture Navigation that has been added, not many reviewers seem to be covering it.

The device in this video seems to have an older Firmware than mine, he doesn't have the Performance Mode feature in the battery settings.

The Verge review is in:
https://www.theverge.com/2018/10/24...eview-kirin-980-processor-triple-leica-camera

TL:DR?
Better than the Note 9, not as good as the Pixel 3XL. Not entirely happy with the camera and too expensive.
Still going to read the review, but are they seriously putting the Pixel 3 over the Note9 and Mate 20 Pro??? I am reading about a lot of issues on the Pixel 3 including one where the RAM cannot even allow you take a picture without having to shut down the music player first.

Will give it a look when I get home though. I know the Pixel 3 has an incredible camera though.

This review completely put me off the phone, canceling my order for it. Will rather stick to Samsung for now. Not a bad phone at all, but not for me

Well when a review thinks the pixel 3 is better than it, i would take it with the tiniest grain of salt, but each to their own :) Pixel 3 ONLY has a camera and vanilla android going for it, everything else is terrible, design, features, innovation.

What about the review exactly put you off?

Enjoy the Sammy, still fantastic devices

Agreed very superficial article, will confuse many people who don't check out other reviewers views.

If frikkin Telkom can just call me back and sustain the call I might get one today or tomorrow. The damn call just keeps dropping and I cannot confirm if my order went through or not..

This part especially, I hated the S7 Edge with that curved sides so much I returned it within 1 day and just took a notmal S7

"My only gripe with Huawei’s Mate 20 Pro display are its curved sides, which remind me of the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S7 Edge. Because the front curve is symmetrically matched by a rear-glass curve, the sides of the Mate 20 Pro narrow down almost to a point. That’s obviously not ideal for a comfortable grip, and I find myself wishing for the Pixel 3 XL’s doughier sides. When watching video in landscape, I also notice the distortion caused by the curvy edges of the Mate 20 Pro, which is especially prominent with sports broadcasts where the scoreline graphics get warped. "

Plenty of reviews put me off the phone, but was hoping things would improve once it's launched. It seems like Huawei tried to hard to get a lot of new features out in this device, without sorting small issues, like the selfie camera, that thing will score 0/100 in any review.
Fingerprint reader might be a nice new feature being in the screen, but also seems a hit and miss according to all reviews. Needs a little bit of work, but that's usually normal for new features, not sure if a software update will solve, probably not. And also with the Face 3D unlock feature, other people can unlock it for you as per other reviews.
And every reviewer mentions they butcher Android with EMUI, never touched a Huawei before, so did not really know what they meant by that... so yesterday when I asked a colleague to have a look at his P20 Pro .. well, holy hell, feels like that EMUI is a huge step backwards, personal opinion of course.

Must say I appreciate Huawei having SwiftKey built-in, I discovered that it has a Clipboard similar to what I have in the Galaxy Note, and one can Pin what one wants to keep in the clipboard for longer, which is great.
