Huawei P6

Two roms coming to the P6 soon, might release prior the international 4.4.2 UI 2.0 release in May.

MIUI based on 4.4.2 - (Xiaomi)
ColorOS based on 4.4.2 - (Oppo)

The above roms are not ported and is designed uniquely to the P6 which makes it quite nice.

What is ColourOS like, hate MIUI.
Not that I really need custom, with root and Xposed my phone does not do anything I dont want it too and its not a samsung so no bloatware to remove

I really don't know, however I do see it as very much welcomed when it comes down to other vendors opening up on their Android fork releases.

Thats true, Huawei was also very closed with their source code so custom roms were few and far between, even then often full of bugs'.
Though with lovely apps like Xposed, the need for custom roms will begin decreasing, most of thier features and even a few they do not have yet are available through Xposed. Think now the bigger reasons would be Custom Kernels that are correctly configured, custom roms may head more in the direction of performance than customization', which is not necessarily a bad thing, developers can focus more on improvements than enhancements.

Firstly, sorry, KitKat is 4.4.2, not 4.3.3.
I downloaded it on 4 April, but don't remember wherefrom, but may well have been via Android Police or xda, was an easy Google. Here is a suggestion or 2 http://huaweinews.com/2014/03/ascend-p6-b506-kitkat-firmware/ ,http://dl.huaweinews.com/Roms/Ascend...001C17B506.zip , here is the horribly translated changelog http://goo.gl/jLwP9I .
Her phone is not rooted. I previously installed the B125 update the same way.
The download was 811Mb. As I said, this was as painless and easy as the B125. Download, unzip(has to be so because of the local install, unlike a CM or so, where you go via recovery and zipped), transfer, local install. Took only a few minutes, restarted, few inputs and it was done. Can't say if it helped battery life, definitely not much, but everything else is now really great.

Do you have to have an SD card in the device to install updates and roms.

hi all, we just finished full stable kitkat omni rom for p6. only need to fix the incoming call delay (very minor) but that should be very soon. head over to xda to check!

That would be nice, have the B506 leak and it comes with 0 internet off wifi and the notifications panel has no icons. Going back to JellyBean this weekend.

EDIT: Scratch that, will go omni this weekend, I get so few calls, a delay bug is meaningless.

Really nice rom. and its not such a issue. Call comes in and takes like 3seconds till screen responds. Thats all.

So basically, its doing what my phone already does, wonder if that's not a B506 bug then. As I said, so few calls I really could care less, I am talking 2 calls a week is busy, everyone I know uses IM's more often a call means someone is dead or close to death these days

Same here. Should be able to flash straight from the b506.

Omni is working very nicely, completely painless install, especially with titanium to do a quick restore.

Have it seen any bugs, not even that call one noted.
Cannot comment on batter as I was playing ingress all morning.
All in all, it's fast, smooth and I definitely prefer the nexus ui over the emotion ui.

Makes me wonder what emotion is actually doing when omni+gapps is 337mb yet official update without gapps is almost 1.5gb,what other rubbish is running in the background.

Hey guy how can I move saved obb data and other game data to sd card. If i move to sd card from settings obb data and android data don't move ie real racing 3 the app moves but game data doesn't, if I physically move it the game re downloads data to internal memory. BTW running B132 and rooted.

You need to contact the app developer for that, but its likely not possible. the game is looking for the data in a pre-programmed location, if its not in said location it assumes its no there and downloads it. So moving the game mans nothings, its basically like moving a game on your pc and expecting the shortcut on your desktop to still work.

If your phone is rooted, you have terminal emulator installed and have some familiarity with linux you could try creating a symlink, I see no apps for this on the play store, but I see no reason the function would not exist in android, it much make use of symlinks natively.
Symlink is basically a high level shortcut, the folder still exists, yet it reads its content from another location, so as far as the OS is concerned and all related apps, the files are there, just its physical storage space is being consumed elsewhere.

Is there a beginners guide to this sort of thing?

I've never done this before, in fact this is the first Android phone I've ever used.

I'm not happy with the phone as is, so keen to try something different.

Dumb question: What is this Omni?

Thanks for any advice guys.

Beginners guide to what, rooting, custom rooms, symlink?

Need to be a tad more specific, and ya there all over Google for all of the both, symlink though is more linux than Android.

Omni, by which I assume you referring to omnirom is a custom rom available for the P6 based on vanilla Droid, so it's about a quarter of the size, maybe double the speed and performance, not 100% sure on its battery usage differential yet. Basically you turn your phone into the equivalent of a nexus with some nice software upgrades and get the latest kitkat to boot.

Okay. I want to install this Omni. How do? :)

Wow, you make it seem so simple, not that it's extremely complicated, but needs to be done properly.

There are 2 xda threads you WI need, the links k could actually be a page or 2 back, I'm mobile so can't help much with that, but searching Google for omni Ascend p6 will get you there quickly too.

As a note, anything major goes wrong, your warranty ain't worth a single sheet of 1 play during jippo guts boet. It has to either be serious enough that they can't turn it on, or minor enough that you can reverse everything before taking it in.

Guides you will find, what you need to do is get team win bootloader on, then omnirom can follow. Backup or say goodbye to anything not on your SD card before you begin.
