Huawei P8 & P8 Lite - Reviews, tips & tricks

Guys

I have changed the version of my P8 lite to one which allowed me to be able to utilise 2 sims, will the updating of the android version cause me to lose this?
No. It will remain dualsim after update.

Edit: make sure the version you install is compatible with the version you have currently

You should have waited for the OTA updates from our local networks. Those deep settings that are there, are not on any international version or custom roms which is a huge problem as its not optimized for our local networks.

Disagree.
Nothing special about our networks.
Most likely a factory reset is needed after a major upgrade.

I managed to upgrade my p8 lite to Android 6.0. The update was 1.1gb, and it somehow used 90mb even after the install file was downloaded. I'll see if there are any improvements in usability from tomorrow.

I have romed many an Android and I can tell you these settings are for signal which are built into the network version. When the phone is constantly looking for better signal battery life suffers. I'm not talking about those APN settings those are easy enough to configure manually. Yes nothing special about our networks :-) I'm talking about settings programmed into the rom that makes it work better on existing networks. Thats my 2 cents.....

Should work like a bomb now and battery life will improve.

My daughter had somebody run into her which resulted in a drop and cracked screen. I was a bit shocked at the prices of non original part replacements this weekend (between R1200 and R1800 for the P8 Lite)... Any tips for where I can find a more cost effective replacement?

I see one or two on bidorbuy (original and non original) which didn't look too bad so I'm considering doing it myself but I worry about killing this good little phone.

I'm saving up for a screen or phone replacement by paying +-R90 a month on insurance.

I see that there is pretty cheap once off insurance from Vodacom (for example). Pity they never mention that when taking an upgrade. For my wife and daughter I'd have definitely taken it had I known.
