Hi Guys
I have a friend got a second hand p8 lite (vodacom) but the second sim is deactivated.
I called Huawei they advised that certain models are only Dual sim but form the list they sent this one is dual sim (ALE-L21)

I found the update files on XDA but when i run the install file it fails (any one experience this issue)
I even tried the official update from Huawei (generic not Cell c or vodacom) failed as well.
Any ideas?

Are you sure it is Dual SIM. I have a single SIM P8 Lite from Vodacom that shows up as an ALE-21. Having said that, I succesfully updated it using this link which describes the ALE-21 as Dual SIM :

Im not sure if Dual sim - but got the folowing form Huawei:
We have looked into your query and not all P8 lite are dual sim capable
The below are dual capable:
ALE-L02
ALE-L04
ALE-L21
ALE-L23
Currently in South Africa only Cell C and Telkom support dual sim

although hers is ALE-L21 - it is vodacom.

That's the same file i tried HUAWEI ALE-L21C02B589CUSTC02D001 and it goes about 2% into updating then fails.
It might be possible that her SD card is too slow (lower then class 10)?

I believe Vodacom is running a custom ROM that disables the second sim slot on the ALE-L21 model.

There are different builds. You need to use one that matches your current one. That one is C02. What is the full version of your current firmware?

If the device is rooted the oeminfo can be changed to another region and then flashed with its matching full firmware. My daughter has a P8 Lite, I've been wanting to get my hands on to do precisely this, bypassing a silly firmware lock down. Sadly, that's a way away as I will wait until her next upgrade.

I have read, though, that the second sim often has a blank IMEI. Works though, in countries like the UK even with the blank IMEI.

Obviously, caution to anyone that does try something like this.

True it seems.

on another note i managed to update my phone to MM using this site:

it now shows this to be firmware : ALE-L21C432B574, and the "dual card management" is shown

will i need to get another tray to use 2 simcards, as it doesn't fit...
 
The slow release cycle from Huawei SA (or our local SP's) is pushing me towards a Nexus 6P instead of P9 for my next upgrade.

The second slot is a nano sim. You place it across the slot, unlike the microsim.
 
sim 2 seems to be micro ....

so is there no way to get a sim in there ?
 
Does anyone have a P8 (GRA-L09) om Vodacom with the standard software it ships with? I need to know the s/w build and version number so I can downgrade mine from MM as I need to send it in for a warranty claim.

Tell them you went overseas and it updated OTA.

Yes, it was an inconvenience at first (when swapping sims between devices). I bought a few cellc nanosims to get its microsim adaptor, then changed all sims to nano. With the micro adaptor I can easily resize my sims.

Edit: Just confirmed on the backcover (haven't removed the "plastic/sticker" on backcover), it's either microsd or nanosim for 2nd slot. Microsim on 1st.
 
Good idea thanks. If I cant get the official software on will give it a try. Just found that service providers make insurance companies look honourable when it comes to warranties so want to try and close as many loopholes as possible.
 
I got a P8 Lite on Telkom Mobilie.

Don't know what the fuss is about this crap phone. 4G or LTE is slow. Messages take forever to come through especially WhatsApp.
 
Aah maybe it's Telkom mobile that's the issue
