I am so confused. Not sure if I want the Xbox one or the ps4 and I got 2 days to make a choice.
Here's my summary since i went through this exercise a week ago
In the end it's pretty much about the games (if not, then XB1 is better at the non-gaming activities). In terms of exclusives , sadly, it seems on both sides alot of the big hitters are being delayed into 2016, which might make the 2015 landscape not entirely in any console's favor.
Thing is the PS4 got a huge (or massive) headstart in terms of sales/popularity in SA. So there are more people on PS4s and thus most likely a larger 2nd hand market . It has also been proven that the PS4 is the more powerful machine and runs a higher resolution than the XB1, so graphics will most likely always be slightly better.
That said, both XB1 and PS4 now requires a subscription fee to play online. XB1 definitely are far ahead in terms of media features (i.e. being able to stream your content natively, PS4 surprisingly still doesn't have this built-in). XB1 also seems to have more freedom with what external harddrives being connected and adding more space for your content.
The ultimate thing that swayed me the one way or the other at the end was pretty much reading about Windows 10 and the type of integration that is planned between Windows 10 and the Xbox One platform. Just the thought that i can use my XB1 to stream games to my laptop (which can't handle the games by itself) is something to wonder about. Some might also see the fact that MS is seriously pushing for cross-platform gaming (as in, ability to play the same games on Win 10 AND/OR Xbox One) as a waste in terms of owning a XB1, i see it as great direction (the non technical gamers will always opt for a console, technical will opt to build a PC, with this they can play together).
Of course i also have a Xbox 360, which i initially thought would be a bit of a waste to keep around, but i'm pretty much double dipping now with the Xbox Live sub which applies to both XB360/XB1 at the same time , so i'm getting about 4-6 games for free each month between the two.
An finally, Kinect, i had it on XB360, i felt it to be a gimmick and a bit of a waste unless you like dancing/exercise games. So this time around i have skipped this until there is actually a serious game that isn't some sort of party trick joke ala "Star Wars Kinect". Both Sony and MS is already working on their next thing (Project Morpheus and HoloLens) which remains to be seen how that will end up.
