Since we have some nice new pets to choose from, maybe it is time to look into some detail as to what pets are best for what situation.

I have made the mistake of taking a Wolf pet to a raid, yea it is nice to boost the raid AP by 140 if there is no paladin or warrior, yes the wolf AP buff dont stack with BOM or Battle shout, those two don't even stack.
Some other pets have exactly the same issues...

So what am I looking for in a raid situation, most likely a top DPS pet. Devilsours, Raptors, and Cats seems to be the top dps pets at the moment.
I have tested on the level 70 training dummy and my cat were able to maintain 400-450 dps quite easily, my wolf pet around 450 dps with his buff and 420 without it. Have not tested out the raptors yet, and don't have 51 BM tallent for the devilsours yet.
Finaly I tested out a Scorpid pet, and it really did perform great during long fights. 450-500dps, the scorpid poison ticks for about 500 per tick!

Next would be to test out the Scorpid vs Cat in a raid scenario with full raid buffs. Would like to see which benifits the most from raid wide buffs.

I have no idea, respecced my tard ran in an instance, saw my dps was down the toilet and logged out, have not logged it in since then :/

Really? I have seen an increase of almost 30% in my dps! I even do more dps using a MM spec compared to the dps I did before as BM.
Now 1800 dps BM spec, 1600 dps MM spec
Was 1500 dps BM spec

LOL!

Apparently the Ravengers are still the best DPS pet to have. I have one, but I haven't logged in with my hunter since the patch, so haven't tested yet :p

Heard this from a buddy of mine thats pretty up to date with WoW theory :)

Where are the test dummies btw? I keep hearing about them..

I've been playing around with the different pets but sadly I haven't taken the time to level them all to 70.
Ravager DPS is still very respectable but Cat and Scorpid are horribly powerful.
I haven't tested with my own Cat yet but in our Raid last night our BM Hunter was doing 596+ with his pet alone. (that was Raid buffed though)
Solo'ing with my crummy geared Hunter I had a Scorpid pushing an easy 400 dps on a target dummy (lvl 69 Scorpid) with my 70 Ravager doing about 360+

I'm still playing around with a Corehound but it's definitely more for pimp factor then anything.

If my Hunter was my Raiding main I'd definitely be using a Cat or Scorpid.

I haven't tested a Devilsaur yet but I did try out a Wolf and found it to be a bit lackluster.

Yea Ravager and windserpent pets are now way weaker than the Cats and raptors. Their special abilities are on cooldowns now, and they have a flat 10% less dps than the dps pets. Scorpids are so good at the moment since they are bugged, and apperently are using the level 80 version of scorpid poison.

Nah, they're doing huge numbers at the moment because their Poison is Scaling with Hunter AP a lot more then it did.
Expect it to get nerfed.
Blizz have also said all Exotics are going to get a little more DPS to make them more desirable.

Getting an exotic pet at level 60 still aint worth it though, since you cant get Go for the throught tallent together with the 51 point tallent. Will have to wait to level up a bit more to get an exotic. I have also heard that bliz plan to boost exotic dps by another 10%, so could be worth it.

Yeah sadly I've had to pass on Go For the throat for my Exotic but my gear isn't that good so I'm only sitting on 25% unbuffed Crit at the moment.
Although i did get a chuckle out of speccing SV and sitting with a near permanent 40% with the same gear on.

Ok so last night I started playing around with my lvl 65 Shy-Rotam.
To Summarise, hawtsauce.
Even at 65 my pet is pushing out 360 dps. This was tested on Headless Horseman and not a target dummy though so it might skew the results slightly.
On a related weird note, I hadn't taken my Cat out the Stable since before the Patch when I was leveling him on the side and when I took him to Nagrand to grind on ogres to level he dinged and gained 50% of the way to lvl 67 on my first Ogre kill.
I'm guessing it was something to do with the new Pet experience limits but it was still amusing.

Yeah I use Petopedia a lot but I still like to do some testing on my own. <3 the new Target Dummies.

Yea indeed petopia is a usefull source to see what pets are out there, but as far as the serious stuff goes, they fall short. I need more pet theorycrafting!

Kill command is insanely powerful in current form.
In BG's last night I popped all my trinkets + racial dps boosting abilities + BW and then use KC while my pet is on a warrior / rogue / mage / shaman... my kitty was hitting crits of over 1k + shots when KC was activated with full focus bar.

But in all fairness PVP is completely broken unbalanced at the moment.

Raid wise - scorpid > all
PVP and general farming - cat rocks

**edit talent builds are gonna have to change for BM hunters looking @ max dps output soon again. Animal handler will be a necessity if you wanna achieve max DPS from your pet since our pets are now treated and handled as melee dps. No idea where I am gonna suck out another 2 talent points though.
Animal handler no longer provides chance to hit... but expertise ratings. So yes.. it will be required.

Thanks of the heads up about AH.
I must admit I'm still a complete nub about burning all my abilities enough so I've been tempted to macro KC back into my Steadyshot macro (nothing hectic, just uses Trinks) but I'll resist the urge.

I don't have much to add to what's been said here except that Devilsaurs apparently only really shine in PvE boss fights. For short burst fights (aka in PvP) they don't do as well except maybe that they scare the **** out of your opponents due to their size =P

The reason for Devilsaurs performing better in boss fights is that Monstrous Bite needs time to build up to it's full potential. For a better explanation go here: http://www.wowinsider.com/2008/10/15/patch-3-0-2-guide-to-exotic-pets-devilsaur/
