I hate telkom SO MUCH!!!!

Guy I live in Pietermaritzburg, Capital of KZN with a population of around 500 000. Less than an hours drive away from Durban. I don't live on a "plot somewhere with less than 5 neighbors";)

I had to wait an entire year before I got my ADSL from them, I had to check in every month to see whether any lines were available.
so not "years" then :p

i grew up in 'maritzburg btw, and i'm thinkiing areas like Hilton, Ashburton, Slang's Spruit, or Imbali, one might have some issues in getting ADSL. sorry if you thought the 'plot' comment was aimed at you, i meant it generally

Telkom are looking at becomming the fifth cellphone provider next to MTN vodacom, cellc and virgin, Goodie more competition, is just what we need. maybe they will have a 3G package out by then

Friend living in DURBAN (Morningside) is still waiting for his ADSL. Since the beginning of the year. At first they complained his local exchange needed fixing and then that it didn't have any availability.
Now that there was space for him, it still wouldn't work. They called the techies around and got told his exchange was flooded (:wtf:) and that HE would have to phone the municipality to sort it out as it was HIS job to do that.

They're actually charging him each month for the line, even though he doesn't have ADSL. I told him to phone them last night to tell them WTF and the person on the phone merely said "Oh, it's an error" and cancelled the monthly debit for the line, no refunds, nothing.

Taking advantage of the unknowing citizens, GG Telkom.

Side-note: My 100th post was a rant on Telkom; they don't deserve such an accolade.

3. They say they don't know because the person who sent me a letter said the infrastructure does not support it. Phoning telkom, they say that is incorrect there are just no ports available,
and they don't know when ports will be available because this is a private person who sent me this letter? :/
I received a similar letter and two weeks later I had my adsl enabled so don't be lose hope.
I think I waited approximately one and a half months maybe a little more from my initial request to having adsl enabled.

FuK, and I thought those living in cape.town had better service...am about to move to cape.town CBD, hoping perhaps these idiots known as Telkom will respond better because of the rich Europeans living there...
Two weeks...some months....some YEARS to enable internet? It's time for a revolution.

You only read the problems of the minority of ADSL users... there are 600 000-odd non-complaining users out there.

I guess I was lucky, moved the other day to a small coastal town on the South Coast, and 4 days after my request, my telephone line was installed, and ADSL enabled and verified, and working at the correct speed, 4mb.

Kraai, you are lucky. I moved up here to Honeydew in Johannesburg about 2 months ago and I'm still waiting for my normal telephone line to be installed. Every time I phone them they give me a different date to when they will supposedly come.

I can't think how this could be a good, thing, because mybb had an article of how Telkom customers were on the decline. And if new customers can't even get adsl! I mean what is the point of advertising a product you can't deliver, and to everybody who wrote on this thread that they can't get adsl geez I feel your pain! This sucks a lot, how do you not upgrade your infrastructure even though you are losing clients, and then to advertise something you can't even deliver on! And 600 000, non complaining customers? I think there are 599 999 complaining ones and one non complaining customer, which would be you :D And I agree, Telkom does hate me :D :D :DI thought Joburg and Cape Town would get ADSL with no troubles at all!
And i don't live on a plot, in fact I live like a kilometre from a telkom exchange :D

I get the same story!

Margate, Ramsgate, or Uvongo by any chance? my theory is smaller towns = less deadwood and fewer DSLAM saturation

I've heard this problem is across SA, small towns, cities etc. some people are being told they might have to wait years. So is there any alternative, from a gaming perspective, than telkom adsl?

dunno if 3g still has such terrible latency, but last time i checked things were really bad, in terms of ping. and then there's cost which is pretty close to daylight robbery imo

So for gaming there is no option? Ugh... online gaming will have to wait a few months I guess! Anyone know anything about this WUG thing?

Bleep, it looks like I'm luckier than you in this instance. Telkom installed my telephone line this morning. :) Will do an adsl self install over the next couple of days. The techie told me that I will have lots of trouble with a 4mb line and that I shouldn't get anything higher than 1mb. Will have to see though.

Man, I'm just happy that I've finally got my line. :D

*edit*

Okay it would seem that I do not qualify for self install. So now it's the waiting game again. Oh well, halfway there.

Muwhahahahahaha and the wait continues, you are once again in my boat :D ahhh feels good not to row alone :P

Well...
after the rudest technicians on the planet, most unfriendly and unhelpful call center ever, and every other headache from Telkom I have dealt with since applying for my telephone line (which would become DSL)...

I finally had a technician show up.
The friggin poles have been stolen. The entire Block's poles are gone.
Nobody noticed, because not a single person on the block uses Telkom anymore.

Now it seems Telkom might not be willing to put new poles back in...

/goodbye DSL dreams?

I am so sad right now, I can hardly describe the gloom I feel.

I placed an order in March for my 4mb ADSL, took them many months to just "verify" my address cause it wasnt on the system, but there are people with phone lines and ADSL in the townhouse complex I stay in :S.

Finally got the ADSL line installed on Sunday, now battling with them to setup email aliases on my mailbox. :P
