What did they use to remove it? A spade or an axe?

thnx, I just hope they dont find any more... go to have a PET scan...

Unfortunately positive for cancer.....

:( not nice

I hope they got it all & that it wont return ever again :)

Is the tender pain after op still there or is that healing a lil already with just a bit of pain every now & then ?

Hope it heals nicely & quickly. :)

Crap, that's sad to hear man, especially being so young :(

Thanks for motivating me to quit smoking and start eating healthier.

All the best, hope they got it all.

They took good margins on the tumor, bad news for me is its a stage 3 melanoma, which comes from a primary source (still to find it - going for a PET scan next week = R18000). Once that is done we can see whats up....

As for the cut, it aches in some areas, but due to it being right where the left facial nerves branch out, there is a lot of numbness.... that could last up to 18 months...

Damn man, that's not the best prognosis!! Nor the worst mind you.. R18k is just the start of it. I assume you got medical aid..? You in for a rockie ride meneer. Hold on tight and try enjoy the ride...

IRG - you're really brave. Especially about being so open about it, and sharing with the rest of the MyBB community.

To be honest, you're in a really k*k situation, and I don't think I would have handled it as well as you are. I commend you on this. We've all definitely learnt alot from your experience. We wish you all the best, and our prayers are with you.

Dude. All the best. Flipping smack that thing stukkend.
And if it were me, I'd milk that story about the shark for all it was worth ;)

Seriously peeved off this morning.... Discovery Health declined me for the PET scan, apparently I do not meet their requirements??? WTF ?? I Have cancer and Oncology can not find the primary source??? Jeez... Uhm so Discover thinks thats ok... I'll probably die any way, so why waste money... mo fo pricks!

Which requirement did they say you don't meet?

Waiting for my Oncologist to phone me back, gonna sort this shyte out. I'm on Discovery Classic Saver. But apparently discover do not cover PET scans at all, unless it meets their requirements, but thats for cancer patients only. They are going to have to explain the "requirements" very carefully to me, cause I'm not a push over in any sense! When I'm revved up, BEWARE!

Surely you have been diagnosed as having a malignant cancerous growth which you are being treated for? Doesn't that pretty much fit the definition?

No treatment has commenced, as they do not know where or what to treat, I had a melanoma growth on a lymph node, which has been removed. In order to start treatment, we need to determine the primary source. So we know where I'm at but don't know where from?!?! Holy crap, I'm stunned!

I understand that you are rightfully requesting that they pay for the scan, but they are clearly looking for loopholes  I can understand your frustration. You could consider having the scan done at a goverment hospital. I believe there they look at your income before charging you.

Though I do realise that as a result of the strikes that they are maybe not efficient right now :( I took someone with their lil one to coronation here in jo'burg a few months ago. The lady had no regular & minimal income at the time & the child needed a CAT scan due to fits she was having. They did other tests too & it turned out the child is epileptic. They charged her not even R50.

At that time the place was not lavish but it was clean. The waiting took long but the staff were helpful & friendly.
