I Have a Lump

No treatment has commenced, as they do not know where or what to treat, I had a melanoma growth on a lymph node, which has been removed. In order to start treatment, we need to determine the primary source. So we know where I'm at but don't know where from?!?! Holy crap, I'm stunned!

Ah, sorry.

I find their priorities odd though. From what I understand the key to beating cancer is to catch it and treat it as early as possible. Surely it will hbe cheaper in the long run to just pay for the scan now rather than to wait for possible complications down the line?

There is only one Public Hospital in the Durban area that has PET scan capabilities, I'm not going near it with the current strike action....

Looks like I'm quite late in catching it :(

Understandable. That's why I mentioned the strikes.

After lots of phone calls and some calm headed phone throttling, Discovery caught a wakeup call and have approved the scan!!!

I remember going for an HIV test - was scary as hell - can't imagine what you must be going through

I think you can compare it to an innocent person facing a death penalty, waiting trial to hear when they gonna pull the plug .... morbid!

I cannot imagine the scenarios playing around in your head right now! I guess expecting the worst will make very bad news a little more tolerable, so, certainly, expect the worst but once you have the prognosis and the plan of action, know that both your physical and mental constitutions will be tested to the max. Remain positive, retain your sense of humor, endorse the support of friends and family that offer it and YOU WILL BEAT THIS THING!!!!

Good luck man!!! I'm really routing for you!!!

Yeah... I don't plan on rolling over and letting it consume me!!! I got a 4yr old, and I wanna see him grow up !!! Still gots lots to teach him!

Thanx for the encouragement !

I know you are scared but:

It's only a few hours to wait now!!!! :) :) :)

At least you have managed to have the scan & the wait will be short now.

It's better that you know what is wrong so that the doctors can treat you & you can see the grey hairs on your son's head one day :)

hey man.. just caught up on this thread... so sorry to hear what you are going through. i have had experience in dealing with cancer in my family and know how difficult it can be.. i also just want to say good luck!! stay positive and stay strong!!

tx Malasius & CG... much appreciated...

Yip, I've seen the cancer cycle close up before, My Father In-Law was diagnosed terminal 6yrs ago, he faded from a once great man to a fragile being. Took just 10 months (they gave him 3 - but he fought as hard as he could). I had a fantastic F/inlaw... was really sad.

Greets IRG

All I can say is STERKTE.

Stay strong and positive!

Be strong ! I hope that they can identify the primary cause and sort it out ! Let us know what happens !

Yoh, Yoh, Yoh!!! 2nd person in 14 yrs to have a melanoma on a lymph node without a primary source and no other secondaries! One more op (to clean up at original tumor site and remove lymph nodes - just in case), + Some radiation therapy & a year of drugs! But a very good prognosis. :)
