I have a multi million dollar idea

I often bump into people who have bright ideas that they think will change the world. Problem is, most of them are not willing to spend a Cent on their ideas. They don't want to pay me or any dev house to implement it for them. They want free labour, and to market the app themselves after it has been developed. Well done for going further than most!
Has the app gone live yet?

This.. it simply means that they do not really believe in their idea.

I have a customer that had a great idea and believed in it. He spent about R1M with me to develop it. Had to scrape the cash together and sometimes paid VERY late. But today this idea is very successful. Obviously marketed it very well. Deployed in 40 countries. He has 10% GLOBAL market share. Quite something for a little company in SA.

If you have a great idea and do not resource it with sufficient cash to develop.market etc, it's dead in the water.

Had a 'friend' that also had 'a great idea'. Got a developer to dev the idea in his own time for 'a stake in the company'. Problem is that this 'friend' thought his idea had intrinsic value. Ideas have no value. The poor developer believed him and put in huge amount of hours. So effectively the developer funded the venture while my 'friend' put in zero. No cash. No marketing. Nada. Dead in the water. Developer ran out of money/time. 'Friend' blames the developer.

So still no news. Thought it was meant to be finished soon? Suspense is killing me!

I've thought about this often as well ... with myself being the 'friend'.

I'd want (hope) the developer would also let me know what he genuinely thinks and if it'll work. Surely the developer wouldn't go ahead if it was a crappy idea ?

For me the issue is not that they don't want to spend a cent on the idea, the issue is the don't want to spend anything on it. Not their time, not further refining it on paper or using online software to design the screens. The whole process for them should be about the journey. The lessons about startups they will learn, the contacts they will make, wanting to improving the world. How they can the knowledge they gain in the app to help them in their other businesses. How, even if the venture fails, they can still come out ahead, based off all the knowledge, contacts and lessons they gained which they can use to apply to future ventures. This is also called pivot.

Instead their motivation is just the idea and it's worth. That motivation is wrong to start with and will lead to failure.

Good advice.
OP has perhaps fallen into the focus on the money hole a little bit, app hasn't launched or even gained traction and he's petrified of all the fictious money that may get stolen from him. Just saying.

Or the op has actually fallen into a real hole and can't get out, perhaps some perv has locked him in his basement, when last was he active on the forum?
