I need a new mouse

This is the only Rival 300 I could find on TakeAlot:

What you think of this tho:

Speedlink Prime

Preferably id like to get one from TakeAlot as I have a few vouchers there. I also need a Keyboard but haven't seen any nice "Gaming" bundles on TakeAlot.

What you think? Im open to other recommendations...
 
I'm looking for a mouse I can use for work and gaming - once I get into PC gaming again.

A gaming mouse does not have to be corded. Nothing wrong with cordless for gaming these days. The Logitech M705 is also laser over optical, much better.

If you want corded and gaming (i.e. onboard memory with profiles etc.) then I would recommend the Steelseries Sensei.

You are coming from a life of less clutter and cables (Apple), so I feel a cordless mouse is in line with this experience.

On both counts. Never wireless, and there are certain situations where optical is preferred over laser.

Nonsense. Cordless gaming was even perfect several years ago with the Razer Mamba, Logitech whatever, etc. I'm talking competitive Starcraft, CS, etc.

We are not dealing with crappy cordless mouses here, which may have issues. The Logitech M705 is a very good mouse.

Very untrue; optical is more reliable and precise than laser. Laser sensors allow for higher DPI settings but suffer from acceleration and therefore inaccuracy.

There are good wireless mouses that I'm sure will perform equally to wired ones; but for CS at least every pro right now is using a wired mouse. It's your decision based on the portability and 'cable neatness' you require.



Don't fall for the fancy marketing of a 12000 DPI laser sensor. On a 23" screen you won't need more than 4000 DPI, and if you'll be playing FPS games lower DPI helps to improve your accuracy. Something else to consider is if you want any extra buttons on the mouse. I find backwards and forwards buttons very useful when navigating through my filesystem and browsing online.

I'm not going to get into this debate. OP is moving from Mac to PC and wants to do some gaming. A quality cordless mouse will be more than perfect, period.
 
Get a Logitech G602. Cordless, loads of buttons you can bend to your will and extremely comfortable.

Might be a tad pricey these days... Glad I got it on a Takealot daily deal last year.
 
After years of buying mice that cost R500+ and the buttons stopping to work after a year or two I've decided to rather buy cheap mice with a decent DPI. They last just as long as the expensive crap but are 4x-6x cheaper.

The issue could be that you weren't buying Logitech.

Actually I bought two, expensive ones, R800 at the time, ... after that I went Razer bought two/three of those at R700-R800 a mouse then I went cheap and experience was the same. Just much cheaper!

Not sure what you're doing with your mouses then. :) Did you ever get in touch with Logitech? Phenomenal support.

All my mice left buttons stopped working after about 16-24 months. No never tried their support, and the warranty was finished as far as I remember.

You do know mice have a limited amount of clicks right? ;)

Yip, and when I used Logitech mouses before upgrading from my gaming PC to Mac, I never had any issues. I know experiences will differ, but I'm talking years of 10+ hour a day use, 200+ APM Starcraft 2, etc. Maybe I have a gentler touch than you, seeing as all the mouses you use, fail?

Logitech make quality products. Their support has even assisted me out of warranty.

Sounds like I'm unlucky, so might as well stick with the cheap stuff. The rate I'm going through these critters I'm better off buying 5xR200 mice than one R1000 mouse. At least I'll get 5-10 years out of those 5 mice than lets say 2-4 years from the expensive one. I don't think I'm really rough on them either, I push until it clicks :D
