I smoked last night...

avoid the standing areas...easy

strick rules were enforced in the seated area, security guards were patrolling all the time and telling people to take their feet of the chairs.

They simply have low standards then.

I simply couldn't enjoy a concert while smelling of vomit or beer. Good god

I suspect you'd need to be high or drunk or something that would cause you to be completely oblivious to the fact.

*****ing smokers think they have all these rights to ruin my fresh air. concert or not...if you want to kill yourself, fine but don't drag me down with your sorry pathetic lives.
How do you cope with living in a city at all if you're worried about a tiny bit of tobacco smoke in the open air?

Stupid hedonism is part and parcel of rock concerts, bars and clubs. People who don't like that should just stay at home or, if there's really a demand for it, like if concert venues are empty because all these people are staying home, venues will appear to cater to them, organisers will really make an effort to stop anyone smoking.

I wish selfish smokers would just hurry up and die.
That's how I've come to feel about whining non-smokers.

I know people are gonna smoke cigarettes and weed, its a rock concert.
Doesnt mean its not annoying to me. Did i ask any of them to stop, even though it was a no smoking area, No.

People who make a big song and dance about others' smoking register about on the same level as proselytising Jehova's Witnesses on my personal annoyance scale.

all I'm saying is that dont declare the event a non-smoking area then. like I said, under normal circumstances I would simply move to another area... but I was SEATED and could NOT move.

it just creates an expectation that its going to be a smoke-free evening. Different when Im going to... I dunoo, lets say, a braai, where I know Im gonna be blasted with smoke from all sides.

Rather just dont declare it a non-smoking event then?

FYI there will be smoke at rock concerts irrespective of what the 'rules' say.

Eish - ex-smoker here - yes it's k*k to be around the 2nd hand smoke, but jeez, it's a rock concert, a rock concert - pretty much expected eh!

Oh, and that was a pretty mild rant from OP

Now if there is smoking at the Justin Bieber concert, then

It's the principle really. If it's a non-smoking event, then smokers should be prevented from smoking.
To the average non-smoker, second hand cigarette smoke is a major irritant (medical term). It drys and reddens eyes, causes coughing and sore throats, and really decreases one's feeling of well-being.
It's also less the general smoky haze that's a problem, and more the inconsiderate tw@t who exhales directly into other people's faces.
That's just nasty.

I often wonder how much of that is psychosomatic; whiny dipsticks getting so deeply traumatised at the sight of a lit cigarette that they think themselves ill.

I haven't touched a cigarette for 6 months, but I've been around smokers constantly in that time. Can't say I've once experienced any of these symptoms. I also know a fair number of people who have never smoked, but the sight of someone smoking doesn't turn them into self-righteous clowns either.

Even at the Lady GaGa concert people were smoking cigs, and I could swear that I caught a whiff of some weed, but this is Cape Town, you get whiffs of weed and cigs everywhere you go. I sort of expect it nowadays at concerts and clubs. No matter if they say that it's non-smoking.

I agree, just saying, those people i reckon have a real good reason to complain, second hand smoke seems a bit feeble

You know what. Screw you smokers. Its like you are saying concerts belong to smokers now. What gives you the right to tell people to just deal with it when what you are doing is risking others lives so that you can die faster.

Smokers are idiots, they pay good money to kill themselves faster. A lot of them are also selfish pricks by the posts I am seeing here. The concert was a no smoking zone and you have no right to break the law firstly, and secondly expose people with a higher IQ than you to your toxic second hand smoke. Like I said, look in a mirror, what you will see is an idiot who will hopefully remove his genes from the gene pool sometime real soon.

You're going to Bieber's concert? :wtf:

None of it is psychosomatic. Smoke is an irritant. That's a simple fact. The only dipsticks I've seen in this thread are the ones advocating smoking in non-smoking areas, and asserting that there's nothing wrong with it.
Just because you haven't smoked in 6 months, doesn't mean you've become an 'average' (the word I used before) non-smoker.
You are still very much desensitised to cigarette smoke, and your physical reactions won't be the same as one who has never been a smoker.

Really? None of it? At all? Sure. Odd that the only people particularly bothered by a bit of smoke tend to be the self-same people who go through life as if they have broomsticks up their naughts.

My sinuses block up within seconds of being exposed to smoke of any sort, be it a veld fire or someone smoking in my vicinity. So no, I don't have a broomstick up my arse, just that I like to be able to breathe comfortably.

Don't equate "stuckupness" with a very real health risk and level of discomfort. If you want to smoke, puff away, so long as it is not in an area where it is illegal. Just like I won't drink in a public place because I've nearly been arrested before doing it, smokers need to accept that smoking is illegal in public places and they should also realise that a lot of folks want no part of their intrusive habit.
