Cell C needs to reduce its data rate to R0.01 per meg (it's 15x too high). This is for casual OOB data usage, without having to buy any bundle. This is down from 99c.
Then it needs to bring in new data packages such as:
ZAR BUNDLE VALID FOR
R50 5GB 30 days
R100 10GB 30 days
R250 30GB 60 days
R500 75GB 90 days
R1000 200GB 180 months
And scrap this night surfer BS. Data should be available 24/7.
I believe these rates are reasonable rates for both the consumer and the network. The network can still make a profit and they don't have any of the problems associated with excessive uncapped usage. The price varies from R10.24 to R5.00 per GB.
If Cell C were to adjust their mobile data rates to the above suggestion, they'd attract a lot more business - they'd be the most attractive mobile data network, but still not as good as uncapped DSL.
Right now, mobile data users are still being fleeced and it hurts bad!

I think the penetration was completely inevitable given Telkom's inability to roll out land lines to the masses
Hahahaha, i wish he could..... but he cant.
He mentioned something about getting the Network fixed by November which i find hard to believe, LOL.

CellC users have already seen the downside in consumers and data-requirements grow more quickly than the network could adapt. I don't believe CellC's network is broken (despite a few hickups here and there), just too much load, in part due to the price of bandwidth. With your recommendation things would just become worse. Building new cell towers does not happen overnight, but is rather measured in months.

What is frustrating me more and more about MyBB is that it has become a site that just repeats what people say. There was a time when MyBB was investigating issues, challenging industry players, etc. Now whatever whoever says is just repeated bla-bla-bla.
Clearly a lot of Cell C's clients are having major issues (thankfully my business has escaped the issues!), but MyBB doesn't challenge AKC?

First fix Cell-C...
Just received a MMS message that was sent to me last week Thursday. Only came through as my phone roamed onto Vodacom. Messages does not come through while I'm on Cell-C even though it was sent from another Cell-C phone.... go figure....

I don't understand all the comments about him breaking the system, he pioneered the mobile industry in SA and made sure it thrived and became the most popular communications method. He worked within the confines of the legislation and his responsibilities to his shareholders and did a damn good job (look at VC share prices during his tenure).
Right now he could just sit back and relax in retirement, but he is taking up an extraordinary challenge with Cell C to shake up the industry and so far is actually managing to do it. Look at the pressure he has put on prices, the DoC and ICASA to force a move to a more equitable regulatory framework.
Sure there are some teething issues with Cell C's network with the phenomenal growth they are seeing, but look at the bigger picture of what is happening here, ALL the networks are getting forced in to a more competitive environment with better legislation to support this in future.
All I can say is well done so far Alan and keep up the good work! Thanks for not just enjoying a retirement on all the VC money you made, but getting stuck in to a new challenge which will (and already is) benefiting us all.

Good one Bern and 100% agree with you,yes,personally i'm not enjoying a great experience on the Cell C network presently but very happy on the savings side point of view. Aaaah... Yes, the majority of MyBB forumites are "gurus" on what to expect from a network performance point of view but geez I would rather give kudos to anyone who at least advocates a price reduction regime(I'll take the "Road to Damascus" guy).
I reiterate, that prices must come down, and I'm being optimistic that this baby(Cell C) will walk + run soon and thereby bring price relief to the hard-done-by SA consumer.That,to me would be priceless.
