iBurst Accounts Suspended Without Warning

Richard you arent bringing any facts to the table, the point is that once we hit our cap we were GUARANTEED speed up to 64k, and we are allowed to use it as much as we want. They never said up to a certain amount. Now, if their cap system is screwed it isnt OUR problem, its theirs, how dare they punish us because they are incompotent!!!!!

I pay my monthly fee, and expect service according to what I was promised, we dont get refunds when our speeds are sub 56k modem do we?? so please tell me how they can justify this!

And calling someone a BANDWIDTH DOG is surely childish and uneducated on your side, a dog can only eat as much as you give it!!!! Dont give a dog an entire chicken and then expect it to eat only a leg!!!

I'll fight with you on this case, since you can download so much in 2 weeks or so, Since when on our contract does it stipulate how much we should download, I can understand if they say 20 gig if thorottled and u downloading at 12 kb/s max then sure, but if u were getting true 120 kb/s then, I don't know

I also got the "Account Suspended" message and I only did about 8GB (for the whole freekin month)

I did ask the helpdesk why I wasn't throttled at times he said "gee i don't know I can tell you that some users are crawling and others are flying' and people mentioned it here.
people had bad speeds since the cap software came and lets not forget people have only experienced unthrottled speed while throttled since the 15MB pipe came on the 15th, trust me I have not downloaded 40GB since the 15th

Look if you want to start believing WBS' excuses with this little gem, go ahead but lets remember that this is exactly what Sentech did.

some of you ppl reached ur cap and were still downloading at 120 kb/s.

Purely due to WBS's incompetence, yes. It's not like users have the means to limit their own connection speed?

Hmmm... iBurst has an interesting capping policy - Self Capping. Users are supposed to monitor their bandwidth and slow down when they go over three gigs.

As for excessive usage - if greater than 6 gigs is excessive usage then that means that the whole of the first world is a bunch of inordinate bandwidth abusers with their massive bandwidth allowances. Or maybe its just that our cap is too small and the bigger accounts too expensive?

I think they should have handled it better and given a warning first and let us know what they considered excessive.

Well lets say now you were downloading at 120 kb/s after ur CAP now don't you notice something is wrong it aint throttle you to the 64 kb/s, I know there bandwidth monitor system is F*CKED up since it aint true live stats of bandwidth been updated. on http:helpdesk.wbs.co.za

Hmmm - thinking from a Sentech experience POV and people cancelling, remembering back on this, Sentech were only too happy to get rid of the "troublesome customers"

IOW, those that used the service for more than just email and those who use their computers for more than Word and Solitaire.

It seems in the end, they wanted the less intelligent more sheep like consumers.

Possibly this will be iBursts strategy as well - after all, if only 50 people out of 5000 are complaining, who cares ? - possibly there are more complaining, but many of those may be signed into a contract that they are unaware they can actually get out of.

I'd say to the active iBurst members on this forum, if services don't improve and if WBS starts suspending accounts because they cannot get their bandwidth measuring systems in place, kick up more of a stink - don't let them get away with it lightly.

I think they would love nothing more than to see people on this forum dissapear right now.

Anybody manage to get through to the helpdesk and enquire about the situation? I tried calling but I'm not going to stay on hold forever.

exactly, its WBS' fault, and about the excuse they gave to RichardG that the network problems were all due to power users, or abusers as he said:

if that was true, which it isn't, but if it was then the entire network should be 100% right now since all the 'bandwith hogs' accounts have been suspended. So... is everythign fixed for you? I don't think so.

50 out of 100, I dont think so!!!!!

I have many friend that signed up and ALL of them arent happy with the service!

Well I added that statement, They told me that people were going way over there bandwidth limit!!! They thought it was problem with there base station but it was to much bandwidth consumed.

I agree completely. Cancelling is exactly what they want "power" users to do. You've got to give them ****, not surrender!

It sounds like it is about 6GB then...
This means you can experience "true broadband" for 1 day a month, for just R699. What a deal.

I'm with Gatecrasher and bb_matt on this one - and I am one of those that have suffered with no/low bandwidth. Why make the paying customer suffer when the software can't handle the problem, or isn't configured correctly? They should be giving priority to uncapped users on the BSs, not expecting users to monitor their own use and play nice.

At the moment it does appear to be. It seems that in conjunction with suspending big downloaders, they have now taken the foot off the brakes. The connection is flying like it hasn't been for the past fortnight.

But it is untrue to suggest that "badwidth hogs" caused the slow down. WBS caused the slowdown, while figuring out how to protect their bottom line. This then is their "solution."

I agree with u, I suffered and others got there money worth.

Number 1 none of you were Throttled and didn't notify WBS, since you bandwidth abusers were downloading like 20 gig in 2 days or more. I for fact couldn't download nothing, it wasn't network problem it was BANDWIDTH DOGS like you eating and eating the bandwidth as you please.
Get your facts right you <personal_attack/> dog! I've been throttled for the past 2 weeks DOG!

Is this in breach of contract???

This is an email I received from iBurst this morning. they give me a connection and now they are telling me I can only download a vertain ammount on it even *after* I'm capped? I think it's bullsh!t, what does everyone else think?

email:

Your iBurst account has been suspended due to your inordinate consumption of bandwidth. Please contact our call centre (0861 927 4357) for information on how to reactivate your account during normal office hours (Monday to Friday from 8.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m.)

Please check your bandwidth monitor (http://helpdesk.wbs.co.za) to see details of your usage to date.

Accounts Suspended : The Reason

I was told by Dylan (sihen) that due to excessive usage (some users pulling 80-90 gigs) they decided to suspend accounts that exceeded 100% of their cap.

I was then told that the reason why this happened is because they're having problems with their cap system and this is why there is a degraded service.

Thanks to LoneGunman, I retorted with the following :

I'm now losing business due to WBS's inability to implement their systems properly? How is the fact the cap wasn't implemented correctly suddenly my problem? I haven't even used 8 gigs this month!

Dylan promised me that Shaun will call me, and I am patiently waiting to hear what other bull**** the spindoctor can come with.

R26000 worth of business and counting...

Remember the slowdown 2 weeks ago? I had 2GB to go but my speed was maxing at 2KB/s. Most people weren't capped then so HTF would the bandwidth hogs have caused it?

RichardG needs to explain that to us or eat a di©k which should shut him up!
