Iburst getting worse by the week

I'm still sad that I'm leaving iBurst after 3 years (been with them right from the start), but after testing an E220 Huawei modem at home (get 5 bars with Vodacom HSDPA! :)), I realised it's time to move on.

Tired of all the disconnects, no connections & slow speeds. Oh, and the mail server is also damn slow....

What speeds did you get with Vodacom?

Costs involved?

I am seriously considering doing the same!

I won the E220 modem at the MyADSL conference last year, so I'm not too sure what the cash price is.

Bought a Vodacom prepaid sim, and got the MYGIG 1 package for R289.

Top speed? Will plug the modem into my desktop pc and report back (using my last bandwidth on iBurst atm)... ;)

Ok, the top speed on my Huawei E220 for tonight is a 'measly' true 1.1Mbps and was achieved when downloading one of Apple's 'switch to mac' ads - very funny ads!! :)

I know it can go much faster (especially when Vodacom goes from 1.8Mbps to 3.6Mbps), but I don't want to deplete all my bandwidth in one night...

Here's a screenshot...

*At the moment I'm using iBurst at home (use up as much bandwidth as I can before iBurst close my account), but I can't wait to start using my E220 modem!! It is seriously fast & then I'll up my 1GIG package to 2GIG (R389).

Thanks! Not to be scoffed at, eh? :D

Not at all! Videos from YouTube download much faster, browsing is instant - very nice. Oh, and when I uploaded files to a FTP server last night, I got a top upload speed of 279kbps...

I downloaded a file at a blistering 5KB/s. W00t! It felt like old modem days, using getright to ensure I was maxing out my phone line :D Oh, it was a 120MB file, what fun!

Hopefully my adrenal glands will have recovered for the next warp speed trip I take into the ether.

Oh my its even worse today.
Well thankfully i just sent in my cancellation so will be getting 3G but only ater next month which sucks.
Today i can't even get to like any webpages i can't use up any cap this connection is so pointless.

Still seems to be as it should be my side besides that 2 hour "no connection" hiccup last night.

Oh my just ran international speed test and got 11kb/s oh my whats bad then i thought maybe local will be loads better but i got 13.8kb which is worse than there lowest modem they have on speed test page which is 14kb modem i didn't even know such a thing existed.

I do a lot of FTP transfers and, even late at night when the iBurst speeds are up, the transfer rate is no more than that of a dial-up!! :(

Yesterday, I took a friend to Cresta to help him sign up for iBurst, but then I managed to convince him to go for Vodacom. He doesn't need a lot of bandwidth and went for the 500mb @ R249.

I set it up on his laptop today and ... WOW!! It's fast!!!

I am on a 3gig iBurst (3.5gig now) @ R599 per month. A similar Vodacom package will cost me an extra R150.

If those high Vodacom speeds are consistant 24/7, I will definitely consider a change!

I am really gatvol!!!

It's very cool when my E220 modem's blue light starts flashing rapidly - Vodacom HSDPA rocks!!

The other cool thing about my Huawei E220 modem is that it can already handle 3.6Mbps (when Vodacom flicks the switch from 1.8 to 3.6). Not like iBurst where I'll have to fork out another R2800 for a new desktop modem, when/if they decide to go to 2Mbps. This alone is enough reason to go for HSDPA, rather then iBurst.

iBurst will go the Suctech way.

C'mon guys. Haven't you been keeping your eye on the latest advertising?

Vodacom iBurst is the replacement for dial up. If you want broadband, you need to get Vodacom 3G HSDPA. ;)

Dude replacements are meant to be faster :).

I don't know about the other CT towers but Plumstead tower has been "asleep" for a few hours now, just a taste of whats to come when it really starts raining here.

I've been testing different IP ranges and any IP starting with 41.208.xxx.xxx are totally dead.

Only IPs with 196.46.64.xxx are working right now and even they are slower than normal.

You know i find it just sad how bad iburst has gotten over the last 3 months or so and it seem many people are having problems and thats just on this site think how many people that don't use this forum are having problems.
