Mweb should wake up now people want decent connectivity not access to encyclopedias and all the other Cr@p. If they take over Iburst expect to pay more for the privalage to use all this stuff.

The good point about this is that it would be M-WEB - a big boy already that would be taking care of us. We would be sure to get better management and services.

Downside is that (I don't know if anyone has noticed this?) but M-WEB is buying out every ISP in SA - i mean crap, they even took over Tiscali (Tiscali := Worldonline, Global, yebonet, damnit - i cant even remember what more!). So its like a massive fish eating another one. Can anyone say Monopoly?

Damnit - I have a hard enough time trying to deal with their crap cache policies with my clients.

[Oh yes, forgot to mention - another down point would be that they would probably put twice the recommended users per BS. So in fact - it could get worse - much worse.]

m-web are a bunch of wankers.

Things would get much worse under them as they are out to become a monopoly and are part of media24! I am sure you all know what kind of company media24 is. They even sue people over domain names which rightfully belonged to some people.

Their cache is patethic and they're slow on dialup!

Has anyone ever used MWEB? They suck! Everything is slow except local sites. I they take over iBurst we're all gonna get crappy speeds plus they'll just increase the subscription.
Well at least iBurst would be consistent then...:D

Personally I don't like MWEB [I was an MWEB dialup customer in the distant past], and I tend to agree with a lot of the reasons mentioned in this thread - as to why MWEB != gr8...but would a buyout of iBurst by a large & established ISP be a good thing for iBurst as a technology...? I say yes - even MWEB are 1000% better than WBS when it comes to being an ISP...basically WBS should go back to doing whatever they do with the lottery & tata their chance somewhere else...

A wireless loop on the 2.5Ghz regulated frequency spectrum band offers an always-on internet connection to your Wireless modem

2.5GHz? Does anyone use that frequency?

[edit]
Can it. It's MyWireless...

Yup definately MyWireless. Has pictures of the MyWi modems under the FAQ. So going back too the origin of this thread, i cant believe mweb would be looking to set up shop with MyWi while in the process of buying Iburst, so i guess this is all hoax.

Hmmm.... the Mweb Business Website kinda blows the whole "Mwebs Buy's iBurst" out the water.
I don't see them reselling Sentech and then running their own "iBurst Network". Wouldn't make sense from a business point of view.

Agreed.

On a side note, iBurst going bankrupt would have served as a very good lesson/warning to any current and future players in the wireless internet space.

er... dude, that happened after I posted this comment... and after Shaun Green phoned me on my cellular phone. (his wife was ***king him out in the background because they're on their way out)

the random dude you're talking about might not have been the real Shaun Green and could have read my post here.

Re: The reselling of MyWi and running their own iBurst Network. They're buying iBurst because they can then compete with MyWi directly. Apparently they're also going after the dialup market (as MyWi will then be a direct threat to their current dialup users) and will be offering 64k speeds for R150 (much like MyWi) but with a bigger cap.

Seriously, if you want to know the truth, come to chat on irc.ac.za and I'll explain everything.

Oh, and Mweb will be then try to convert most of their dialup users to this new service with the lure of no contract. It all makes business sense if you think about it.

Well lets take this from noone's point of view.
So Mweb sell Sentech Mywireless Product and then buy a stake in WBS.
That means that Mweb will bale WBS out money wise, but the current WBS management would stay. :( Scary thought.

Noone,

Surely you are aware of the consequences of rumours like this one??

hahaha you muppet, thart wasn't shaun green

[19:48] (seangreen): yeah well we are selling to mweb soon, we ran out of money

on irc.ac.za #myadsl

i'm telling you that wasnt him, he was on an adsl account

Slimothy,

You are right......that was not Shaun Green. I know for a fact that Shaun was at a client @ 19:30. I called him while he was there. He returned my call after he got home.

I can understand that people have issues with WBS, I have too, but do take into account what inaccurate rumours can do to individuals.

I really don’t like MWEB. I used their service for more then 8 years. The moment they started to buy out companies their service became as k*k as hell. It was just too damn difficult to change my email address. When I moved to Montana I even tried to get them to forward my email. I was even willing to pay for an email only service but to no avail.

The only service they were prepared to give me was another dial-up account where I still had to pay a rip-off amount (far higher then any other normal ISP account) with a very limited bandwidth, barely enough to read email. I of course told them what they could do with their account. Just a pity I was talking to someone at the helpdesk and not someone in management.

MWEB management is only interested in how much money they can make. I hate them even more then TelScum

The only things that didn’t suck big-time were their email and firewall.
