Roman 4604,

Well stated. :)

I have been following this forum from the beginning and it is amazing how it has turned in something so negative. The hype that used to surround Iburst being the second serious competition to Telkom was quite uplifting. I agree that their service sucks and they have not acted very professionaly most times. BUT I do miss the days when I used to log into the forum and read about the potential of the technology and the fact that this was real competition and would force Telkom to drop their prices (which has happened!)

Hopefully MWEB does purchase the Iburst from WBS, and that they bring their marketing muscle to bring further real competition to Telkom. I know people have had some bad experiences with Mweb, but they do HATE Telkom and at this stage I welcome anyone into the anti-telkom fold.

Mweb is working hard in the background on a real VOIP solution, and this would be a perfect match for them as Iburst's lisc. does provide some real value. The idea of Iburst carrying voice aswell as data sounds exciting (as long as they sort out their latency) and will add further pressure on Telkom.

It would be great to log onto these Iburst forums and read all that positive stuff again!!

Well I think they will sell the product iBurst not the company
In a way WBS as a company will need the BEE effect to run the lotto network

well they would sell the technology with the customer base, thats if there is in fact a sale.........
I mean there would have to be an income base, unless of course they just sold the customer base to Sentechtech and gave swapped all the modems out.
What would they do with all the modems?
And the towers?........... convert them?
.................................................................one thing for sure the WBS nonrepensiveness shows that something is going to be revealed.
Time will tell :)

After much thought, I think it is safe to conclude that:

The entire problem with iBurst in this country is that the people (WBS) who run it, are lacking in knowledge and skills to do so. This serious lack of technical know-how and IT concepts is the heart of the problem.

The equipment and technology works- the people to whom the equipment in SA belongs, do not know how to solve the problems that are occurring.

Getting people out from Arraycom to SA will be a temporary fix. They need to get those people out from the USA and Japan here for an extended period and let them get the whole network working properly, and at the same time, attempt to train the staff at WBS.

Based on all the info I have heard, the core problem with towers such as Northcliff appears to be an RF/antenna related problem on the BS itself. Due to the serious lack of technical knowledge about radio systems, WBS are unable to fix it. I actually wonder if they possess the necessary test equipment to fix the problem.

As far as I am concerned, the issue with Northcliff tower is most likely a faulty connection in a feed due to moisture or, moisture in the waveguides or even a faulty diplexer. How do you fix these problems? With very sophisticated test equipment and a sound knowledge of electronics. People with those kinds of skills are not dime-a-dozen and they certainly don't work at the cheap salary I heard WBS is offering at present. This is the big mistake many small companies in SA make. The man at the top wants to line his pocket nicely and pay his skilled people peanuts. They get upset, and leave. I've seen it happen many times and I've certainly moved on from many companies who chose to pay me the minimum wage instead of what I am really worth based on education and experience.

To all these problems, there are solutions and I think that iBurst can be saved in SA, but it would mean some prompt action on the part of WBS and one possible solution is to allow the skilled people on this forum to volunteer their time and ALLOW us to help them get the problem sorted out. I mean, what's wrong with that??? In that way the gurus on this forum can help WBS and we can sort the problems out and then sit back and enjoy great speeds! With that said, I do, however worry that some of the problem lies with the fact that Telkom's costs are crippling them.

And then trained peoples will left WBS . . . .

IMHO with Northcliff and Sanlam center happens wrong positioning of tower itself.

I've previously stated my opinion on the tower issues so won't go there.

As to skills within WBS: In my opinion they DO have some skilled technical staff... staff that are getting spread too thin.

WBS' primary problem is simple ... an anability to communicate properly with their customer base ... seems that they learnt this trick from MyWireless' early days...

Telkom is being intelligent (forget i said that)

They're busy phasing out their own ISP devision and using SAIX to let smaller companies sell bandwidth FOR them. That way they dont have to deal with the end user, and can fire their call centre staff

yo, thats some quantum **** right there
