iBurst improves offerings with additional data

I'm quite happy about this. They realised they needed to be more competitive so they nudged themselves past the competition, when the competition does the same thing again I hope to see more improvements.

“iBurst doesn’t believe in fine print and this is not a promotion of limited duration,” said Thami Mtshali, CEO of iBurst.

BURN :D

*YAWN*

Oh, I'm sorry, did iBurst say something?

WTF is 500meg on a 9 gig (or for that matter a 3 Gig account)? As for the carry over of bandwidth, most people are asking for bigger caps, so who exactly does this help as most users have nothing left to carry over anyway.

With iBurst covering themselves in glory with trying to drag their competitors through the mud and not even caring about how it affects them, they are going to have to come up with something a LOT better than this to keep and attract new customers.

Wake up Mtshali, the only reason you received the capital injection from the Development Bank and Investec is because of the BEE status and the tie up with Vodacom. Less of a risk to both institutions.

I think capital like taht could have been put to better use by people like Aerosat as they actually give a **** about providing affordable broadband. Will the banks invest in a company like theirs? No, because of the dragging of feet by ICASA and the underhanded tactics of conglomerates such as iBurst/Telkom/Vodacom pulling strings, I doubt it.

You are still going to lose me as a client.

Well, I was on the G9 package.

An extra 500MB is a pathetic response after 2 years of waiting.

Data carryover is good, though. Should help eliminate month-end congestion. Hopefully all ISPs will either go this route or charge per usage on a reducing scale.

Bundles and fixed data "allowances" should be outlawed.

geez what a load of crap... 500mb for a 3G, 6G and 9G package... might as well not give anything... and carry over unused bandwidth? That's a good start but 500mb is too little too late IMHO

They should of increased CAP respective to what package you on.

500 megs to a G9 package is pathetic..

Lots and lots of people agree with me, that's nice for a change

Agreed

You guys are never happy ... how often has one read ... "give us something" or "show us anything" etc ...

As long as this is a start ... it is going the right way!!! ;)

I agree with this. Telkom ups there 1MB bandwidth to 4 and everyone complains they will burn there cap quicker.

Honestly what happened to being positive when something good comes in to the picture.

Maybe all the service providers should go back and take there reductions back.

Honestly. They could give the members of the forum R 1 million each and all you would do is complain about the tax implications

LOL! That last statement summed up the negative nancys on this board so well. They're a real flaw to an otherwise great community.

Still beats whatever Vodacom cooked up in the last 2 years ;) . They are STILL merely trying to get prepaid bundles out!

The cap is a much more important thing to address. How many of us need 4Mb when we have a 3Gb cap?

Try giving us a million Rand each?

There are valid problems with the changes iBurst has made. There is no reason these shouldn't pointed out. Nor is there any reason not to say it is too little and it has taken too long to make these changes.

Perhaps some people are just happy to be overcharged less.

I honestly don't mind it, I'm just hoping it is a knee-jerk reaction and bigger plans will follow. This can't be all they planned to do for how long now, it seems like they are just keeping up with MTN and Sentech.

It is good to see how nicely a little competition works, MTN lower their price, then Sentech now in about 2 days iBurst already. Hope there is more of this coming.

500 megs to a G9 package is pathetic..

It also applies to the G1 package where it is quite a nice increase, and by far the most users are on G1 and G3.

Of course for anything above that this isn't really an improvement... and how are they going to market this btw, if it is permanent. Will they advertise all their packages as 1.5GB or 3.5GB.. they could have just made it all an extra GB and it would be much more useful.

heh, this is at least quite justified, you should have seen the crap when Telkom first made 192kb ADSL. Everyone was so pissed off because they were going backwards, and they want faster not slow etc. Then they did away with it and upped it to 384 with the next price drop, so now people are angry again because they don't want faster speeds when they have a 3Gig cap, they wanted the price reduction. Other people complain because 192 made it cheaper.. but apparently they never wanted it in the first place :/

Now comes 4mb, omg this is terrible. Its way faster, complain again. Anyway, I guess they have a point: (not like they wouldn't completely forget this point and moving onto something else to bitch about if it was addressed) caps need to be addressed some time.
But that is up to Telkom and SAIX mainly, smaller providers could cut costs, but not like we want them without Telkom.

Too Little Too Late

Many of us have voted with our feet.

Will someone please justify the cost of topping up at the bottom end of the iBurst package spectrum?

No one will. The price for that has been terrible since they started. Please don't get them to focus on that, it really isn't as much of a issue with the 64kb cap... which smaller packages don't get. But still, if they change that instead a price drop or anything else I'll really be pissed off.

Its funny how each ISP be it wired or wireless takes its turn being the bad one... Looks like Ibust is doing a fabulous job of pi$$ing people off atm. Tasteless Flyers, badmouthing other wisps, despirate price cuts - which still seems too little... Eish are they living up to their namesake??? - IBUST!

Patiently counting down the days (or weeks or even Months) until Telkom pulls their fist out of their xxxx and downgrades me from optical to copper so I can get ADSL, and then Iburst will have 1 less subscriber...............

They are offering too little, too late and making too much noise about it - their claims are starting to sound like Telkom's.

We are the cheapest - A Lie
We are the 1st to offer data carry over - Another Lie
