iBurst uncapped debate

I also think iBurst has been more than fair in this case. Contract guys get the best of both worlds, and month to month guys get better value for money. We have certainly not seen this from iBurst previously, and the attitude to give contract guys both the uncapped VAS and higher usage limits is refreshing.

You forget one thing, this is only till their current contract expires. This option does not continue on a renewal of a contract or creation of a new contract.
They purely doing this to avoid legal battles over changing the contract.

Well then, that's our problem, isn't it? Not yours?

Well nothing is my problem anymore (except being stuck with useless hardware that I bought cash) cause i left iburst but that doesnt mean Iburst can claim its part of the new pricing structure when they busy working it out of their system.
I am purely warning people what the truth is behind Iburst s smoke screens.

How is this different to ANY other contract you might sign - from a cellphone contracts, to ADSL, to a homeloan?? If you are in a contract, you are bound by it's terms. Once the contract is over, its over. Terms can change after that. That's the choice of the service provider. If you don't like it, wait till your contract expires, don't renew, don't switch to month-to-month, just leave.

Don't expect other iBurst subscribers to subsidize your bandwidth over-utilisation and exploitation of network loopholes.

I agree with Toxic there.

On another thing, I dont understand what your issue about the hardware is, everyone who signs with iBurst is aware of this, did you only just realise this now. iBurst is a specific technology and currently there is only one provider in SA for it. This is not isolated to iBurst only Dusk, so dont make it issue for everyone else. You should be able to sell it off. I am wondering if maybe you could sell back the modem to iBurst for an amount if you contacted them about it?

Like Wimax, if you decide to go ADSL, only option for you is to sell your CPE to someone who can use it for Wimax somewhere else.

...and by the time their contracts expire, the internet landscape will have changed even more in favour of consumers with two more undersea cables. So who knows what iBurst will be able to offer them at that stage.

Eggzakkery. Dusk just likes to be the forum whinger. Apart from one or two hiccups my serviice has been fine. I have another year or so left on my contract. Will I migrate the account from MWEB to iBurst at the end of the contract? Based on current problems there, hell, no! But I have, like I said, quite some time left, plenty of time to watch for new developments, and to make my mind up as to where I will be going. Maybe Jannie wil have beaten iBurst into shape and I wil happy with the idea of staying. If he hasn't then I leave. It really doesn't take a genius to plan these things.

Good Day

Why abuse a good system?
Fair is fair.
You get what you pay for
Use your cap and top up with more

Compare to the US and UK it's a good product and price!

Have a great day

I agree with Jannie and iBust in this regard:
- contract holders still get what they paid for (iBurst are legally obliged to do so till the end of their contract), plus MORE!
- those who opted for month-to-month get a month-to-month service. There are benefits (easy cancellation) as well as disadvantages (contract terms could legally change at the end of any month). Those who chose month-to-month - stop whining. You chose your cake already, now damnit eat it and be happy, or shut the hell up.

I think Jannie and iBurst have tried too hard to be accomodating to the bunch of pricks living on myBB that consume large amounts of data and expect to get a free ride. If it was my company, I wouldn't have entertained their crap, and put a BIG FULL STOP to this along time ago.

Now, for the rest of you complaining myBB pricks, if you really don't like the service from iBurst, then please for the love of God shut-up, and move on to another provider. That's what I did - iBurst really sucked for me, so I moved on to ADSL. I didn't keep crying for 4 months about it. Please give this topic a break already. It's sickening to say the least.

As month-to-month customers we pay lots of money for the modem to experience those minor benefits which you so happily mention. If Jannie had been up front instead of making empty promises this whole issue would have died long time ago.
With regards to your rant about just moving on to another provider. I cancelled by iburst subscription but I don’t have another alternative until nodes are available in my area and who knows how long I will have to wait until they are available.

This is factually incorrect and I would question the accuracy of the remainder of the article on this basis.

Clearly, iBurst have now put their mark in the sand by saying that the abuse of the uncapped service was for reasons stated above. They seem to have ignored the fact that it is impossible to use anything near to 100GB at 100% utilisation 24/7 on both the up and downlink on a 64kb/s throttle in fact this is not possible on a 128kb/s throttle either.

The only way someone could use 100GB is if iBurst failled to throttle, there is a failure to disclose that by iburst.

I accept that iBurst is wireless and there must be limits to what clients use, but misrepresentation is not the way to go about it, and it's just plain stupid to make claims like this in an article posted on a website like myBB with a highly tech literate audience.

D

20GB down 20GB up = 40GB x 2 modems = 80GB + (up to 100GB on the extreme)

It all comes down to trust. How can we ever trust anything iburst says when their CEO lies and then pretends like he didnt ?

In the pipeline. [384k uncapped] lets wait and see how long this takes.......[/I]

For all the image damage done to Iburst about the removal/pay for 64k throttle issue, it would have made good marketing sense to keep the 1% power users/abusers happy. (cross sub business model)

Word of mouth can be viral, I am sure that Jannie is familiar with the book "Tipping Point" by Malcolm Gladwell, the law of the few ,where it only takes a few people to tip the scales.

People at the office know that I am an Iburst user and asked if Iburst (WBS) is a good ISP? (resident techie)
All I need to do is answer NO, and potential Iburst subscribers go looking at other ISP's. How many other resident techies has Iburst pi$$ed off?

I am a month to month customer and was effected by the removal of the 64K throttle.
You bet I am pi$$ed.....

********BRING BACK THE DC HUB***************

Called Iburst today to ask why I'm hardcapped as I'm a contract holder since last year with throttled option. and they stated that in the "Iburst Uncapped Battle" article which states:

>> The iBurst CEO added that current contract holders have benefitted further as iBurst has migrated them to the higher data packages and given them the 64Kbps VAS for free until their contract period is over. “iBurst subscribers in contract thus got the best of both worlds, the new packages with higher caps and lower top-up rates and the throttled service for free. Only when the contracts ran their course would the free service be dropped,” said van Zyl.<<

Is a hoax.
What the hell. What business practice is this?

Just email [email protected] - you probably spoke to the usual uninformed incompetent call centre agent.

no jo. if you have uncapped you not allowed to use it? if it's there you not allowed to use it?

i think many mybb users are so used to complaining that they fail to see a great deal come along. May i remind everybody that we talking bout uncapped wireless which is not even available internationally
