IBURST VS Sentech latest

No decent connection this entire weekend on iburst. Had to use Sentech to send out mail and read this forum!!!

Whtas the use of a 1mb connection when its hardly available!

Ja well No & fine has my connection been since the last disconnect this am. Seems like I'm finally getting a decent day while everyone else suffers :D *gloat*

Don't take this the wrong way (like flaming me), but I've been connected now solidly for 7 days. It disconnected today cause the tower went down for 10 mins. The modem connected to the next nearest tower in Soweto. Then went back to the Roodepoort tower when it came back up.

I'm happier than I was 3 weeks ago... 3 weeks ago the UTD almost went up someones but at W-B-S.....

WBS always seem to keep at least one person happy - DaveOgg seems to be the lucky one most of the time though. :D

<edit>Or was that GateCrasher? </edit>

Hey, even Midrand is working well today. I've had one disconnect, for about 20 seconds, but otherwise lovely - no ping workaround needed.

Hmmmm, so it's not just me that think they did something?

This morning @ home connecting to northcliff I got 130kb/s on a multithreaded download

first time in months I could do that... either that or the people who got disconnected during their testing didn't bother reconnecting asap.

mmmm

Dunno what they did, but I just received a Norton LiveUpdate file - 500KB - singlethreaded download - at 80KB/s average.

Hey, I'm not complaining... :D

 SO you joining all us happy people in Kempton ?

Nope, not yet though... according to Ramlall (the CFO) there is definately going to go another one online to take some load off northcliff.

The problem it seems isn't like Sentech's problem, of physicall bandwidht internationally, the problem is the tower not coping (i think, speculation) and thats why the japs is also out here to help optimize / upgrade things, because I know for a fact the towers they use can be upgraded to take up to twice as much capacity as they are now.

I don't think they expected to hit as many users in 4 months time as they did

Yeah, I get the impression Iburst is selling like hot cakes. Stations are going up that weren't even scheduled. I think their growth has been faster than their ability to cope with it.

And they now have a large group of resellers pumping the product. For a newbie looking for a broadband solution, Iburst is quite compelling. Let's hope they keep re-investing in their infrastructure to cope with the load.

If true, this points to copious levels of greed that will cause WBS to flatten itself into a pancake, what do I mean? - simple if you are taking on more customers than you can physically handle, and treating all of the customers like cashcows, this all before you officially launch, well you will end up with a high percentage of unhappy customers, that simply cancel their contracts due to non-delivery of the service they are paying for. If WBS realised they were biting off more than they could chew, they should have stopped the 5fm adverts, told people calling in to signup, that they would have to wait until April when the service officially launches.

Personally, I think you're wrong on that one IC. Keep in mind that no kind of cap has been introduced as of yet. If/when they do impose one, things should more than likely preform like ADSL, except at twice the speed for half the price and being mobile is a big advantage.

I do however realise there is going to be an influx of "end of month downloaders" because WBS (as far as I know) won't have the capability to have your unused bandwidth rollover to the next month. Waste not want not, everyone will *** at the end of the month.

I'm in it for a while till I see how their capped speeds are. If their capped speeds are true 64k, I won't mind the cap at all. I'll miss the speed though.

Wouldn't it be cool if they only capped p2p activity to 64k after you've reached your 3gig limit? :D

Wishful thinking.

Oh, and IC, I hate you... you are now the top of the guy who posts the most on these noticeboards.

*sigh* I was so proud of myself.... told guiness and everything. Now my record is broken.....
