ICT sector ready to strike

The information and communications technology sector is ready to roll out mass strike action, the Communication Workers' Union (CWU) said in Johannesburg on Friday.

How most of these striking workers come from failed or failing Gov Organizations.They dont seem to try this with the private companies because they will get their ass fired.

So looking at the "who will actually strike"-list, i assume it will be "business as usual" when it comes to government ICT efficiency? Will we even notice the "lack of action" ?

Job security?? Telkom offered them a 2 year moratorium on retrenchments. Who else would do this in the current economic climate?

The other 2 major unions (SACU and Solidarity) accepted the Telkom offer.

This more to do with the power struggle in the ANC/SACP/COSATU alliance than workers' issues with their companies.

Well said, its amazing how all of those companies are failing horribly to provide the service they are paid to perform. I guess its not surprise with workers like these. You can't expect a company to work better than its workers!

No we won't - it's not like Telkom employees have to run on a treadmill to keep the data flowing... although it feels like it.

The CWU workers' striking will not impact on Telkom unless they resort to violence or network sabotage. The other unions' workers (SACU and Solidarity) and the non-unionised workers (the wise ones) are more than capable to keep the data flowing!

Whether I support the strike or I don't - I reckon it won't make any difference, they're all absolutely pathetically useless in any case.

I would appreciate it the various unions could coordinate with the taxi and buses union(s), such that all the unions strike at the same time, thank you in advance for your cooperation in this matter.

Roberts said there was general unhappiness in the sector over wages, the threat of possible job losses through restructuring, as well as poor administration.

"We are generally concerned over the lack of clean administration in all of these public enterprises by management and we think that the public must support us.

"We are not greedy for salary increases, we are greedy for a clean administration," he said.

Ironic that an inept union is complaining about inept administration - can union members go on strike against the administration of the union to which they have tethered their salaries?
