Idle electricity usage.

Yes prepaid is dodgy. The price fluctuates during the month. I've noticed that it's cheaper to buy in the beginning of a month versus the end of the month, you almost pay double.

This what I've bought since mine was installed and it's pretty much the same, whether R30.00 or R500.00, or 1st or the 28th.

I think it's because you stay under the 600kwh total mark per month. It bumps up after that. Mines does. Like for the last few months

Yea I thought that could be the reason too... But definitely not on the dates or individual amounts

Thanls.

I use a combination of my actual prepaid meter, the Owl energy monitor and a Sonoff POW linked to a multiplug, which I take around. I've measured most things - but I can't get to (what I feel) may be the culprit ... my old fridge. (well, I can ... I'm just lazy). But I've measured pretty much everything else using one the above methods, or a combo of 3.

That's a lot !

My 5 year old freezer was 1.1kWh in a day on average and the new one is 0.3kWh - not as much of a drop as you. But both freezers actually used around 80w when the compressor was active - the difference is that the new one switches off the compressor three times as often, so it doesn't 'run' as frequently.

The old fridges seals were shot and the freezer was from the late 80s soooo weren't exactly being efficient. So it went from 1.6kwh a day to around 0.4 to 0.6ish from watching it over an idle period.

The saga continues 120kwh over the past 30 hours.

Geysers are responsible for about 30kwh of that.

Two geysers? Is one more then the other?
2 geysers one is in a timer for 4 hours a day so I assume 10kwh, at 2.5kw Per hour.

The other has knocked up 16kwh since 12am .

The 30kwh excludes the tenant which has 2 more geysers which they use for 2 hrs a day each

Heaters? Underfloor heating?
We usually run the heaters when we are in a room. Exceptim my guest who I realised has been using it almost all the time (teenage boy)

I have undefloor but **** scared to switch it on

Go get some of those 3 panel gas heaters and use those instead. They're cheaper to run (and more pleasant as they humidify the room as well)

I have 2 which is in use in the kitchen and living areas

Excuse the smudged screenshots. Don't have fancy apps tracking my usage. Check the dates on my screenshots. The one for yesterday is the 19th of June.
Mine is definitely not consistent.

My advice would be to someone who is qualified/trained to work with electrical installations:

Get an amp clamp/clamp meter and place it around each of your breakers live wires and then you'll be able to see which breaker is responsible and then its easier to narrow down where the issue lies.
