Hi Guys.

It has come to my attention that my site gives some issues in IE6 with regards to layout, such as in checkout if you try register, the footer links overlays the registration details.

Please could you guys test out my site to see if you see any other issues as I use Win 7.

Any CSS developers, do you know how I could stop this?

Regards

Itai

Die IE6! Die!

Put a note on your site that people should update to IE7 or IE8. It's time that old piece of junk dies. I'm doing this now both inhouse and for external apps.

Better than that, just say that it's incompatible with IE6. This will make them switch to any other browser.

I agree. However doing that, will probably mean that 10% of my customers will turn away :p

Just some interesting info ... firefox has finally overtaken IE on the % of users on my site.

So 90% of your time is going to be spent on keeping 10% happy? Tell them to upgrade their browser and you will have 10% more happier clients.

Lol ... I wouldn't quite say 90% of my time ... but ideally, I'd like to accommodate everybody :p ... those 10% of customers, are usually the ones that have just learnt all about online shopping because they found some consumer electronic on my site they like. I'd like their first experience to be a nice one, not problem riddled :p ... because that first experience most likely will dictate their future online shopping experiences as they are usually the older generation attempting something new to them.

However, I agree with you .. they should upgrade ... lol should make a redirect to all IE6 users that takes them straight to Mozilla page ;)

No, send them a free CD of IE/Firefox with their first purchase and as a "thank you for siting through the misaligned experience" :D

Problem is that many companies still run IE6 (which comes with server 2003) and cant upgrade or install any new browsers because they don't have admin rights...So they stuck with 6

The sysadmin can push it via WSUS. Or use a GP to push Firefox/Chrome/any other browser if they don't want to go the IE route.

IE6 may come with Server 2003, but it doesn't mean that client machines are limited to IE6.

Indeed they stick with IE6. I've had IE6 at this place since I started 3 years ago and there are somethings in IE6 javascript that is easier than in other browsers, but eventually it feels crap trying to get the thing to do layout correctly. Especially now that we've put in some newer versions of opensource apps. So IE6 must go.

Besides, if you have server2003 and no admin rights, then someone screwed up something. :) It's also a bit irrelevant since people won't be using server 2003 as a desktop environment anyway.

Can't open the page at all, times out.

Edit: Its working now.

That are only error messages from the Home Page. The thread should get moved into the Web Devloper Section so the Pro's can check it out :D

Using IE8 and FF.

@Eitai, I wouldnt bother about ie6 users. Just add a line when ie6 users connect that they should upgrade to IE7,8 or FF.

I would be more worried about this :D maybe its just helkom, but havent had any issues today with other sites.

Hmmm, it must be something to do with Texo moving servers over to something more redundant. Will find out. Thanks.

i helped a guy from telkom(rofl) fix some stuff on his pc last week. He was also still using ie6 =\

Guys. Please can you see if my site is taking excessively long for you to load ... and let me know which backbone you or using, like IS or SAIX, etc. Thanks. If it's taking very long to load, please could you do a tracert. Thanks.
