IEC opens up website

R3M when Joomla is free!!

I can't believe government and how rivolous they spend money on mediocre rubbish. Not only is Joomla the perfect vehicle for this, but it would've resulted in an elegantly more attractive website which would've worked out of the box for ALL browsers. That and the fact that Joomla is free software...somebody must be laughing all the way to the bank.

And another thing. Why the hell didn't they make the website mobile enabled ie. cellphone friendly so that you can check where your nearest registration venue is from the comfort of your phone...maybe next elections huh!?

I won't hold my breath...

**** me this site is fail

when u check ur ID number if you are registered the "*** css" from the home page disappears and you are left with a basic box?

wtf honestly did this site cost and who did it? I really want to know because this is not the greatest work... not @ all.

No buddy, this is a great effort of a BEE company. Where skills are null (void) and 50% of the cash is rebate to the one who appointed the company.

PS: Who needs a shiny web site in anyway, this is Africa!

I looked at this site (elections.org.za) and someone is certainly getting ripped off.
If that site is R3 million then i'm a monkeys uncle.
The site is fixed at 800 x 600 when the minimum standard is 1024 x 768. The colors are dreadful and content is written and layed out so poorly.

Who ever owns the website needs seriously spend some time online and look at what other web sites are doing. I doubt this person has any web experience.

This is kinda sad since i'm sure people from abroad will be coming online to this site.

well the fact that this designed/developer/ID10T makes sites like the southafrica2010.co.za which clearly show his/their lvl of design/development etc .... and then whoever gave them the go ahead to do this...they should all be sh1tcanned if they approved this for that price.

if we spent more than 40k on this site as taxpayers we got ripped off.

Computerworld Smithsonian Award

A Computerworld Smithsonian Award, a global honour, was presented to the IEC at a gala dinner in Washington DC in June 2000.

The IEC had been shortlisted as one of five finalists in the Government and Non-Profit Organisations category of the 2000 Computerworld Smithsonian Awards. The remaining four finalists were all American organisations and included three government institutions.

Shame they did not adopt newer web standards since 2000 when they got the award.

3 million, that is really putrid. What a waste of cash regardless of the amount but it looks amazingly sad.
