My fu%%ing phone bill was R850 and my dad just crapped on me.

I told him that i will get the adsl and he said sure..... but the modem????
Thats why im going with the home bundle package.......as i dont have R500 to
get a modem

I NEVER WANTED to do it........ but for god sakes. R850 on petty dialup???
My normal house calls never exceed R200 .Its all the crap disconnections that have eaten my final biscuit.....

I have no other choice.... i am joining the ever growing Telkom. :cool:

I have been at my friends house for the last 3 days and his Telkom Internet has been superb. Brilliant speeds.

Well - should i burn myself with lit cigarettes??? :p
Telkom have made me so powerless i have no other choice.
 
Yeah go for it sign a contract. See if they have anything longer than 2 years.

rather sit one month without internet, and get a modem with the cash you would have spent on dial-up or ADSL in that month.

I am sorry, but I have been with TelkomInternet for a very long time and I am quite happy. The modem never gives problems, the internet is always on and I have great almost unshaped speeds.

1)What do u mean apart from the contract?! You get fined R63 for every month left in it when u cancel. And in two years you will cancel....

2) There are cheap modems out there. You dont have to get a telkom one. You dont even have to get a brand new one.Ask your mates. Shop around...Make an effort....

3) The only way to get telecommunications to improve in a country dominated by a monopolist is to keep customers away from them as much as possible, not encourage them to sign up with the monopolist!

4) there are many, many better offers out there than telkominternet

5) just don't do it!

Hope you getting the 192 package - otherwise your phone bill is going to be right up there anyway...mine was R770 if I recollect - home 384, no calls :rolleyes:

isnt that enough of a reason?

Remember the SNO is hopefully going to lauch within this year, yes they probably arent going to offer ADSL from the start, but nobody knows when, so you cant be certain of Teklom ADSL still being the best option within 2 years.

And what if you NEED to cancel for some reason, like say you move to an area that doesnt have ADSL? Then you end up paying there cancellation fee.

The fact that you're on a contract doesn't mean that you'll be getting better speeds at all, and the modem might work and all, but is it wourth it being tied into a contract?

Go ahead Matt.. sign the contract, THAT will be punishment enough.

Sure the modem they give you works, It damn well better for the price you pay for it. What are the charging these days, R1200?? I've heard from a couple of people that their POTS routers overheat/hang/disconnects frequently etc.

A D-Link R380 modem works 100% and you're not getting ripped off.

So stop being a petty cheap skate and buy the modem :p

non-contract subscribers support the devil just as much as people who have the contract.

just because you have the contract does not mean you have to go with telkominternet ISP.

this is the problem, everyone thinks you have to.

It is for the line, not the ISP, so you can still go with any ISP you want.
You can cancel the contract anytime by paying the balance owing, i.e the value of the router (and probably the install) divided by the number of months left.
I was given the monthly cancellation amount upfront.

and considering that you will be paying for the line anyway, unless you go with the SNO, why not do it as part of the contract, you get the router free, the installation free (well you are supposed to), plus a few extras for free on your voice line such as "best Friends", call waiting, and some other things I can't remember.

So, other than it being Telkom, there is nothing wrong with the contract.

I Actually ordered the 384 Supreme contract as well, but then decided I wanted my own wireless router (Billion) so I phoned and changed it to a non-contract. They did it happily, and it did not affect my installation time. I did however wait to buy my own router, just in case the techie arrived with a telkom one.

The contract would have been cheaper though.
