Heya Everyone.

Well i went out saturday evening and someone managed to steal my mbp, so i am in the market for another computer.

But i am kinda wondering if i shouldn't get a more "desktop" mac.

I want to know what is the rendering time compared to the imac vs the mac mini, i noticed my mbp 13'' was a little slow especially with motion video.

Anyone know where i can get a speed comparison, i obviously don't want something that will go blazingly fast (cause i don't have that kinda cash) but something that will work well or work on par with my mbp.

Regards
Peder

Aah right - didn't know about Motion. Given that the iMac and MBP can be had with i5/i7 processors, I'd venture a guess that they would be the better option. The Mini doesn't even have a high-end Core 2 Duo, so it's not going to be any faster than your MBP. The 27" iMac with quad core i5 or i7 will probably be your best bang for buck.

thats the thing, i don't want to get a 27'' since i maybe have 12999 at most, I just want to make sure it will be worth it spending R12999 on a imac compared to R6999 on a mac mini.

So it comes down to processors. I don't have first hand experience with the i3/5/7 processors, but from what I've read the 3GHz i3 should smoke a 2.2GHz Core2Duo. Also keep in mind, video is disc intensive, and the Mac Mini comes with a 5400rpm laptop drive, so there will be a performance hit there too.

Get 2 Mac Mini's, one to do the work on and one to render.

Imho, the Mac Mini is the best product that Apple has ever made, those things never break.

I reckon the iMac is better value since it has Core i3, way faster than Core 2 Duo. Graphics are better too, as is the hard drive.

For sheer rendering performance for your buck a hackintosh is best. A bit more irritating to set up of course.

Hmmm.. than I would definately go with the i3 iMac :)

yeah i will try my best to get the i3 imac it seems

Was it insured? How did it get "stoled"?

Nope, i did not insure it, i am quite angry that i forgot about it.
and it was taken out of our house by a kid who climbed through the window, the window is literally 50cm x 30cm so yeah irritating

Man that sucks! Can tell you one thing, it's not only kids that can slip through a window that size. There are some slippery buggers out there! Hope u at least get the replacement insured. It's worth the buck in a country like this

I worked out i can possibly also slip through the window. but i think what pisses me off the most is that we left the house for less than an hour. and i mean its not our normal routine...

But wrt insurance, i will get insurance no matter what, now if i could just get insurance on the data, lol, i guess backups should work for that...

You should be thankful for that. It could have been a lot worse if you were at home at the time.
