Imagine Uncapped Feedback

I just had a rant on the post about ex-IS boss buying in to Axxess...
http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthr...MacRobert-former-IS-CEO-invests-in-Axxess-DSL

Damn this market needs to change and I'm so very glad that Mweb are forcing their way through on this. We are supporting them and all other suppliers and companies in this marketplace that are evolving into something new, something lean and something that supplies a level and equal service to all it's clients. The old-boy network needs to disappear so that this sector can start progressing into the forerunner of an emerging economy.

I hope you guys are trying to sort out something with IS here... I can barely load my email.

Currently screaming and shouting isn't working but i'll let you know as soon as we do.
I really thought we'd gone past this, yet the last few days seems to have reverted back to the terrible service levels from two weeks ago.

I am currently an MWEB customer, but have been watching the Imagine thread since the whole uncapped internet thing started. I joined MWEB last month on the 16th and the service was awesome, but it has been degrading every day. Speeds are so bad on P2P during the day (try 35kBps on 4Mbps line). You probably know all this, but be warned before you start reselling their product. If it gets worse than it is know, I will start considering to cancel the account (a lot of people are not happy atm). ppedrick, your service and help has been awesome and cannot be matched by any isp, so at some stage I will move my account to Imagine. Maybe you guys can wake MWEB up, because I fear they will become another Afrihost. What they do not understand is that they have an advantage at the moment, but in the near future this will not be the case, competition will catch up and then most of the customers will drop them like hot potatoes. Anyway, just know that their service is also degrading fast and that you might be experiencing similar issues you are facing know with IS if degrading continues at current tempo.

Farimir, I spent last month with Imagine, they were spectacular customer service wise, however the line performance of the IS accounts is worse then you're experiencing with MWEB. Many nights I wouldnt get above 30kbps on my 4meg account and during the day I wouldnt even see 2kbps.

I moved to Mweb this month and in the evenings my newserver downloads run between 70 and 120kbps. The Mweb offering is DEFINITELY better then the IS offerings, but it is getting worse from the feedback I see, lets hope IS can pull their finger out and get their performance up!!!

Hey farimir and thanks for the kind words.

Our problem right now is that's we're between a rock and a hard place with both of these uncapped services. As randomguy has said... both of these services are declining, however, they have both commited to them and both say that they will get a lot better than they currently are. At some point one of them will have to do that!

Right now we have seen much better speeds and consistency from the MWeb account, however, we couldn't and shouldn't discount what IS have said and also their ability to perform well.

I love the fact that the internet age is happening here but it's in such a painful way that I haven't really seen in other countries. You can't discount anyone yet and that's also great news for the industry, to force everyone to offer all the available products. It should also see a few larger businesses emerging in this space to offer quality and service levels on multiple options. We've always been pushing for a space for double and triple play in the market... it's getting there and most importantly there are not a lot of businesses in this sector who do not have the network to produce/mange it.... thank god we are one, however that's also the reason I am here.

A bit of a ramble, I'm sorry - but although I'd love to have you as a customer I can't guarantee any better levels of quality on the IS product. I would be very happy to welcome you though as a new MWeb customer, assuming we can get their accounts up and running for June. :D

I agree with you that MWEB is the best atm, no doubt, but the situation is not healthy. I also hope that IS get their act together, more competition is needed. I am very worried at the service deteriorating at MWEB and I am just worried that by the time Imagine starts to resell, service is about the same as IS. From what I have seen, ppedrick might be our best shot to kick MWEB into action.

I'm not with Imagine but with PluGG.co.za

I'm on the same account though 4096k Basic IS Uncapped. I'm getting between 300-400kbs on public torrent trackers. I'm actually in a state of shock cause its usually shaped to like 10kbs.

Is it just me or are there any other people seeing a increase in speed now.

Not very good here on 384 connection :(

finally have dsl as of from today. so now i can [-]ab[/-]use my imagine IPS uncapped :)

okee... seems i have magical 50% speed drop. 4 threads link tested
ftp://ftp.is.co.za/linux/distributions/debian-iso/5.0.4/alpha/iso-cd/debian-504-alpha-CD-1.iso

starts with ±360kbps for a short while then flat lines to constant 220kbps. even speed test max out at 2meg.

edit:
if telkom set your dsl line to 2 meg and you "have a 4 meg" do the modem still sync at 4meg or will it show 2meg in the downstream ?.

edit:
sat morning and getting 3.39meg on speed test and 4.14kbps on linux iso. at least i know it isn't the line :)

Welcome to IS, Necuno.
Yeah there still seems to be some sort of issue with maintaining speed on the IS accounts. But it's supposed to be sorted out by ?month's end? so hopefully we'll see okay speeds then.

cool. well initially i thought it was still my line since the first installation was buggerup and only was fixed yesterday, but i see i'm reaching around 4 megs which is ok then. at least no more 0800 375 375 for now...

How are your guys' speeds this morning?
Local stuff loads fine (in comparison to how it usually is during the week), but intl is pretty horrible today. Images taking forever to finish loading.
Intl stuff works sort of okay though if I stop all other internet activity.

Hey guys,
Sorry for the quiet few days - have been moving house for my gf... I think i have sucker written across my face!

Yeah - we have had mixed reviews today. The account either flies or fails with little inbetween.
I'm hoping that after our MWeb meeting on Wednesday we can offer everyone the ablility to easily swap between accounts until one of them gets better.

Will let you all know.

havn't gotten home yet to feel the up/down, but weekend's uncapped was good thanks :)

I'm on 4mb Uncapped Basic (Imagine) during the day at the home/office where I am working. Fastest HTTP download I've ever seen in three weeks or so is 50kB/sec. Right now, it's peaking at about 20kB/sec. Browsing is noticeably slower than something like a capped service.

My Uncapped Express+ at home is currently rate limited, and the performance is better than this! Having said that though, since the introduction of these new uncapped products, even Uncapped Express+ has taken a nose-dive in after-hours performance, what with everyone jumping on the bandwagon. So much so that I'm really not happy paying R1000 for it anymore, and I'd like to drop down to one of the R500 offerings. Based on experience with Uncapped Basic, and feedback from MWEB users, MWEB seems the way to go.

Pity, since Imagine has been great from a service-level. For their sake, I hope IS can get back on track sooner than later.
