iMessage & FaceTime on Cell C

I ported from vodacom to cell c, kept my 082 number. iMessage and facetime works fine, so not sure why yours isn't working.

Maybe try switching the facetime off and then on again while connected to wifi. My activation failed but worked while on wifi.
It worked fine for me. But then i tried changing the from number as it was showing a cell c 084 number and not my ported voda number

Mine does not active on 3G nor wifi. Both only works on my apple ID not my ported number

Let us know what they say there when I went there they told me its a network problem and when I
went to cell c they tell me it's a phone problem

If this does not get fixed I think I should cancel my contract and port to mtn and see how things are there.

Na its not that serious for me, will try and restore to factory settings and start from scratch. IF all else fails theres always whatsapp

Still no luck here, I went to CellC/ Istore/ Ifix and now even Autopage manager called me in, to fix this mess. Incompetence reins in South Africa. Everybody blames everybody, but no one wants to take the time to get a solution. I got the iPhone with those functions in mind, so I can communicate with my friends for free… well I’m not leaving it till I get it fixed!
History:
Ported from MTN to CelC
Nokia N8 to iPhone5

Same trouble for my brother who ported from VC to CellC, and my wife from MTN to CellC. Their imessage and facetime is linked to their AppleID only now, but still they can't get FaceTime to connect. Not sure about iMessage.

I decided to change my number to Cell C (no porting or sim swap) and of course mine works fine, so basically the problem comes in when you start the phone with one SIM, and then change the number of the SIM later.

At the moment we are trying the wait and see if it activates option. I'll give it two days. If that does not work, we will try and get Cell C to de-activate the SIM and re-activate it. Failing that, we will try and get a new nano sim, NOT PUT IT IN THE PHONE, request a sim swap so that the wanted number on this new SIM, WAIT FOR THE SIM SWAP TO HAVE GONE THROUGH, and then only insert this new SIM into the Phone and restart.

If someone else wants to try that so long please post what happens here that will save me a wild goose chase.

Hi Oozy

You don't need to wait two days it will show this screen after a few hours

You can try it another time to see if it goes through I tested mine for like 8 times no success.

Let us know how that deactivating of the sim goes. Cell C sent me the apple apn but still no success.

Sim swap didn't work too

Wow so please confirm, you went through the whole process I described, bought a new nano sim, simswapped, then only put the new sim in the phone? and still no activation?

ok so my boet's iMessage and Facetime activated while he was on the landline organising to give his phone back within 7 days :) but not because they were threatened. I know this because they were clueless.

i will try the same he did with my wife's iphone and let you know if it worked again for us.

First he signed out of Imessage and Facetime completely (make sure no email address is selected, nothing) and from Wifi (not sure if the Wifi has anything to do with it, but for the sake of completeness).
Created a contact with his own details and with his number but without any country code (just 082 ...).
Then to Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>My Info and selected this new contact.
Then tried to activate iMessage and Facetime again, then put on the WiFi, and it still said waiting, and then was busy with some other stuff for an hour and then phoned to cancel with CellC and while on the phone he noticed that his number was suddenly added.

Good luck!

I'm trying this now... after trying just about everything on the internet. I must have applied 30 different fixes and restoring, nothing worked. Cannot activate with Cell No. And yes CellC and Autopage fiddled with my phone and could not get it right either. "Passing the buck" sure this has been said. Their advice; "restore" the phone... then, I only did that a few times already. If this "fix" works I will be over the moon! Thanks for sharing. I'm also on my way to give this cr@p back to CellC!!! But, I like my iPhone!!

Did not do the trick for me:-(. Is there anybody else that have an 083* number with CellC that can confirm that those apps actually do work with the phone number, and not just the email? Thanks.

It does work even if you sim swap after initial setup.
I will pay you to activate my iMessage and Facetime, seeing that everything is just dandy for you!
Not even Ian at the TT Management Center from CellC can get it right... and this has cost me R117.48 in SMS charges to the UK No. 447786205094 to get what? "Activation unsuccessfull!"

Well, let me start by saying that I converted an 073 number over and had exactly the same issues. This is NOT a CellC issue and they are NOT passing the buck. They along with carriers across the world are clueless. You can search internationally and see folk around the world with the same issue. Once you activate iMessage with the first number it's a PITA to change to a new one, simple as that...

It took me about 24 hours and R40 worth of sms's to get sorted. I was just about to do a full phone wipe and restore before it magically started working. I tried everything as mentioned and I'm honestly not sure what eventually did the trick but my guess is that it did help to:
1) Logout of all iMessage and FaceTime accounts on all iOS devices.
2) Wait 24 hours for Apple's system to forget about your old number.
3) Try and activate iMessage with the new phone number only and not with your AppleId.
4) Once you activate it after the 24 hours leave it in waiting for authentication for a good few hours...

YMMV but I'm thinking that kinda helped me get it sorted.

I had exactly this same issue after adding my new iPad to facetime and imessage (macbook and iphone was perfect before ipad came into mix).

Only apple id worked. My cell number was greyed out. Waiting for activation... This was an issue for me. Every time I messaged or called (facetime) someone my apple id would show on the called cellphone. Issue as my apple id is not anything close to my name and surname. This obviously confused whomever I called. Nway.
I spent hours on the net searching for answers, tried all the "fixes", including all mentioned in previous posts.
I phoned cell c for answers. Quickly noticed they are of no use as the lady I spoke to asked me to hold on so she can borrow her supervisors iphone to double check settings. I told her that I have owned apple products for years now and I am definitely sure I am not missing a step. She insisted and for my amusement I switched the phone to speaker and left her going through, literally, every step and setting on that phone.

Nway long story short, heres what fixed it for me...

I backed up my idevices, reinstalled all the software (fresh).
Set the devices up as new devices (during this process you will go through facetime and imessage setup).
Noticed it worked perfectly.
After this I restored my devices from last backups, restarted and bam, it worked, finally.

Now my macbook, ipad and iphone can send and receive imessages and factime from same cell number without issues.

Hope this will help...

I'll give that a go Sactjt and see if it works.

Did this method work for anyone else with this issue?

Same problem here... ditto...

RAVE, thank you so much! I've tried every solution that was suggested on multiple forums and wasnt willing to re-setup my iPhone. I also thought that it was an issue with porting my number from Vodacom to Cell-C, but your solution worked perfectly for me. I logged out of everything and waited 2 days. Once Apple's system "forgot" about my old number, I logged everything back in and it all started working as it should have from the start.

It's a weird bug and an oversight from Apple's side which I hope they will fix for the sake of the users who haven't read this yet.

Thanks for figuring this out for us!!! :)
