iMessage

There is also an option to disable the alternate sms message option if you want to avoid costly sms's being sent when you have no net.

anyone managed to get it working on the iPad?

Yea its fairly easy, u just need to make sure you message to email and that the other person has imessage enabled, otherwise there contract will show up red when you add it to the "to" collum

Yep, mine works fine on both the iPad and iPhone.

The sound of incoming iMessages on both devices simultaneausly, can be quite irritating though.... The GF and I have been using it for a week now...

Yea I finally figured out that you have to use the email address, not the phone number.

You can change the email address on one of the devices to have them work independently if you want.

Just an FYI - I message will try to activate your phone number but you will only be able to successfully send iMessages if your push messages are functioning as they should. So make sure you have a properly activated phone (Use an MTN or Voda sim to activate if you can or SAM if you're stuck) with working push messages.

Any of you struggling to get signed in on the iPad? I've upgraded both devices to iOS 5, and iMessage works perfectly on my phone, but I can't seem to get it signed in on the iPad. Can't get my mom's iPad signed in either, and she's on a different Apple ID. Any ideas?

are they WiFi only? If not try 3G. Otherwise change DNS of your WiFi to 8.8.8.8 (Google's DNS)

Hmmm....At least on BBM your messages and SMS's are separate (and when the service is up) it doesn't take a lot to figure out. What was that about Blackberries being primitive? :D

Weird that you guys had issues. Just worked from the word go for me. Not quite sure why you should want to keep things separate. The whole idea is that you message someone and the software figures out which service would be better to use, automatically.

Been using it for a little while now and I think it's awesome! I still prefer Whatsapp though, purely because it's cross-platform. But it is still nicely done by Apple...

One question I have is...

I know iMessagew is free, however, will we still get charged if we use 3G to send a message?
Like as in data charges?

If so, then it's not entirely free, is it?
So it's like BBM then? R69 a month for unlimited BBM-ing?

I have got imessage to work on my iphone, but my messages are not mirrored on my iPad 1. I have used the same apple id to set up both devices. Any suggestions?

How does one deal with a situation where you have multiple devices on one account. My household has 3 idevices, among 2 people. It won't let me add other email addresses.

The iPad will only receive messages sent to your email address, not your cell number.

Multiple Apple IDs? I don't think it is possible to switch Apple IDs with iOS 5.

I am using one appleID with multiple devices. I want to be able to message to the iPad but seeing as the email is the same I'm not sure how that'll work.

I just tested sending an iMessage from my phone to my iPad and it works if you send to your email address from the phone. Is that kind of what you were looking for?
