Immigrating to the UK

The route I went for my citizenship qualifies my children for it too. (Which is crazy if you ask me). My friend who went through the same process as me got ones for his kids too.

I think the specific route was S.4L BNA 1981.

"
If an individual is registered under section 4L, they will become a British citizen otherwise than by descent. They will be able to pass on their citizenship to a child born outside of the UK."
But then why is it so expensive?
£2500 feels like a lot of money. How much does the UK gov charge?

Do all the countries involved allow triple citizenship?

Yip.

The UK gov fee is £1250, the rest is sables fees, which is high. I believe a place like Breytenbach are cheaper.

Why you even using a 3rd party? Applying for citizenship is easy. Its an online form and you pay your fee.

It's a discretionary application, and requires the submission of certain legal arguments specific to the scenario, which are complicated. Prefer the third party do it correctly.

Why have they made these changes?

The Care Worker visa is now closed to overseas applicants due to concerns over abuse and exploitation. In-country switching remains allowed until July 2028 to provide a transition period for existing visa holders.

The Skilled Worker visa is now only open to graduate-level roles, RQF Level 6 and above. Over 100 lower-skilled occupations have been removed from eligibility.

Because Boris Johnson and the Tories removed the RQF 6 requirement and allowed people with matric to come in as 'skilled workers'

I’m all for it because this type of **** keeps happening more and more:

And the low-skilled loophole has been abused to no end ever since the CoS was passed onto businesses.

Maybe @purple facepalm was about to apply for a care worker visa?
Lol no I saw on a Facebook group this post and lots of peopler were panicking. I didn't know about it. I was surprised that they have cancelled so many job opportunities. Lots of people actually go over and work in the UK I just didn't think this would ever happen.

Most people are panicking if they go over on a skilled visa and then try to change jobs within the 5 years it's going to be a problem. They will have to start the whole process over.

They're not cancelling real job opportunities. They're clamping down on scams where people who are not qualified are getting in on "skilled visas" through fake jobs.

When you go in on a work permit/visa, you always need to find a new sponsor if you want to change jobs, as the visa is tied to that particular employer. Nothing changing there.

So I got my Citizenship done last year and only now am I fiiiinally applying for my first British Passport (had financial difficulties that made me put it off).

I'm seeking advice on what the best documents to use for proof of residence/address might be?

Here's what listed:

And 1 of the following from the last 12 months, that shows your name and address and/or residency:

  • letter from your employer
  • medical card
  • letter from your local council or a government department
  • voter’s card
  • visa or residence permit (a colour photocopy will do)
  • education record for example a school report
  • immigration documents

  • I am a contractor, so no employer letter or payslips with my address.
  • I do not have a "medical card".
  • I am a renter, so I don't have any bills with my address from government. I do have a monthly rental statement, but not sure if it is acceptable as it is not from government.
  • Voter's cards aren't a thing here.
  • I don't have a visa or residence permit, but I do have my retention of Citizenship letter (acquired just before the Constitutional Court finally ruled that it isn't required ).
  • I went to school much longer than 12 months ago.
  • I have not immigrated.

Would my Retention of Citizenship letter do the job?
Proof of address provided by estate agents?
Bill from Cool Ideas? Bank Statement?
Maybe a colour print of a tax return that shows my address?

Advice would be highly appreciated.

If you've got citizenship then apply to be put on the voters roll.
You will get a letter back in 2 weeks stating you are on the voters roll.

That's a no go unfortunately. "You cannot register as an overseas voter if you’ve never lived in the UK - even if you’re a British or Irish citizen."

A statement from the bank should have your address on it?

This seems to be the current list for 1st passport.

First British Passport

If you are applying for a First British Passport you must provide a minimum of 3 documents from the list below as evidence of name and address and/or residency including:

  • two documents which show both your name and address and/or proof of residency
  • Non-British uncancelled passport
  • National identity card or equivalent (or colour photocopy)
  • Driving licence
  • Any government or local government produced document which includes a photograph as part of the document
  • Visa or residence permit (or colour photocopy)
  • Tax record (for example, a letter from a tax authority)
  • Educational record (for example, a school report)
  • Employment record (for example, an official letter from your employer)
  • Letter sent to you from a central, regional or local government department
  • Medical/health card
  • Voter’s card
  • Immigration documents.

Indeed! It's just not listed as one of the accepted forms of proof of address, so I worry that it's not "official" enough especially since I can just print it myself.

I guess this means I should be able to print a tax return with my address on it and it should be valid. I suppose I'm just worried that anything that I can print myself won't "count" and it's gonna be a real PITA if I land up having to courier further proof of residence.

AFAIK documents will need to be originals. You can't print them off yourself.
