Immigrating to the UK

I opened a Barclays account with the app and them posting me the card and pin seperate.

The only prepaid esim I know of is Vodafone, its not official but if you get a prepaid physical sim then on their online portal you can do a sim swap to esim, done this twice but moved back to smarty (better pricing and smaller bundles)

What bank is everyone using in the UK?
Monzo is effortless - all you need is a delivery address (you can even send to a friends house, no sig needed upon delivery) and a BRP.

Get your SA licence converted and the British licence will open up some more doors for banking (can be used for IDF & proof of residence)

I have British Passport.
Tried to be cheeky and sign up for Monzo here, but the app detected the VPN.

None of the MVNO's do esim yet, only direct on contract with EE, O2 and Vodafone.
Thanks for that. I'm going to chuck some golf balls away up in Scotland in May. Was hoping to just load an e-sim with data only on my phone. So looks like a mobile wifi dongle with normal sim is the only solution then.

Not many people here use a separate data sim, you normally just buy the size data allowance you want and they come with unlimited calls and texts included.

There is a WHSmith at Gatwick that opens at 6am (I land at 5:45am), I can get a GiffGaff sim card from there.

I’d make the comment that Giffgaff is the most backward of MVNO’s on the worst network in the country (o2).

As a decent prepaid package I’d look at either Smarty (@Sinbad can confirm how he finds 3UK as he is on ID Mobile which is also a 3UK MVNO) or Lebara (which runs on Vodafone and had very cheap specials all the time). Both also offer all the modern network features like 5G, VoLTE, Wi-Fi Calling etc.

Edit
Just checked Lebara, current offer is £1.49 a month for the first 6 months on their 12GB plan.

Any suggestions on how to get a car?

Can I just buy a 2nd hand one cash without all credit scores or proof of residence (or will the insurance part catch me out)?

Also whats the limitations on the HP process? Sounds like a way to get a car on monthly repayments without strictly being considered "credit".
