Immigrating to the UK

ie: Product development, networks.

I've recently seen many tiktoks of younger South Africans and Australians really struggling to find work. But a) they are young with little/no experience b) they are on young people visas c) they are in London.

I'm a british citizen, so I hope that would count in my favour.

Outsourcing is still a big issue in the UK tech industry. Can get like 4-5 crappy devs, network or Wintel engineers in India for the price of one in the UK, so it’s a no-brainer for companies.

Company I used to work for simply stopped hiring local and even went through the effort of setting up an office in Bangalore. As the locals moved on to better things, they just replaced them with whatever they could find in India. Problem was that they were really, really bad. As in I was in a meeting with a client and they provided a solution to a long-standing networking issue that our “expert” in India couldn’t solve for months.

There was also the issue of data protection, as a lot of our clients were from the government (NHS included) and their major concern was how people in a foreign country, with data laws that weren’t on par with GDPR, were going to handle their data. As in, they started threatening to cancel their contracts. So, the company reluctantly had to start hiring a few local people JUST to cover that base.

Having said that, if you can get your foot in the door, the sky’s the limit.

lol, I would like to (visit) but I can only do 1 trip. US & Canada or the UK.

Sorting out final stages for US & Canada trip.

I do have a good buddy that moved over to Wells in Feb, he is enjoying it there but just today was mentioning in our group chat about missing the sun.

Apparently it’s been cold & raining almost every day since he arrived two months ago.
The weather this spring has been a little crazy. Yesterday it was rainy, sunny, cloudy and windy. And a touch of cold at night (I slept with a blanket on top of my summer duvet).

I was lucky; last year when I arrived it was rainy the first day and then proceeded to be sunny for the next 2 weeks. And that was in Feb.

Yeah there was snow in bradford, hail in southampton, bright sun in portsmouth - all the while blowing a gale. Crazy weather.

Weather was mad yesterday by me as well, raining ice and wind in the morning and sunny and calm in the afternoon.

We had heavy rain, hail, gale force wind and sunshine in the space of an hour yesterday. Repeated several times.

It's hailing here... baby hail compared to what I'd get back in SA but hailing none the less

The thunderstorms in UK are also quite limp and weak. They do happen, but rarely.

Was in SA during February, had a few proper thunderstorms on the highhveld. Must say, thunderstorms is oddly something I miss in UK

on this we agree. I miss the window shaking thunder you get on the highveld.
Was in Middelberg back in Dec visiting the future in-laws and the thunderstorms there are heaven.

You must have missed “Thunder Thursday”, I’ve never experienced a thunderstorm like that, before or since. It rained so hard I couldn’t see the bridge I was driving over and had to just guess where I was driving.

Felt the same when I moved to Cape Town, the storms there were pathetic. Missed the storms even to this day. Pretty sure it would terrify most people who never grew up in those areas.

I grew up in CT till Grade 6 / Std 4 then moved to JHB , those first few summer months were terrifying

Anyone here shipped stuff over in a container? I'm looking at https://www.sevenseasworldwide.com currently but need 3 quotes for my work to cover it.
How much volume are you bringing over? For a smaller cube 7 seas is a great turn key solution, I also used them.

If you are considering larger volumes such as a full 20/40ft container there are better options availible.
