For insurance I was advised to contact this guy ( steve *at* specialist4.co.uk). Seems to be the company that most people on the FB group I'm on suggested contacting.

This . When buying any car get insurance quotes first. I bought a sh!Tbox for £650 ( it seemed like a good idea at the time) and the insurance was over £400. The cheapest I could find at the time.
The insurance companies here don't seem to care about your business or keeping it. I remember being able to get Outsurance to price match and even lower their premiums just by saying I was considering leaving.
Before you buy:I've been here 8months and still surviving without a car...I can walk most places (gym, shops etc. ±15mins) or take the train to the city/town if I wanted to. But I need to get a car at some point so thought I'd ask what you all did when you got here? Buy el'cheapo cash?
How long did it take to get unabridged birth/marriage certificates from Home Affairs. I went yesterday, and they said since they need to get mines from Pretoria, it will take 6-8 weeks!
Unabridged marriage certificates will take a long time if you haven't requested them before. Took about a year. Yes a whole year.
A car certainly isn’t needed, but It makes it easier if you need to go pick stuff up, and we have had some pretty epic road trips when friends visit.
Well get your weekly shopping delivered, or at the very least do collection.A car for us would 100% be needed. No way am I doing the weekly shopping by bus. Or going to the in-laws by bus with the family.
Right, time to try and sell my Johannesburg property. It's making me nervous as I had it on show for a few months about a year and a half ago with very little luck. Stuck a tenant into it but they've now given notice so it's time to try again. It's stressing me out, for sure.

The only time I go to the shops these days is to buy milk.
For my grocery shopping I do collection with Sainsbury's (which costs 50p)... drive up to the box, push the button, give them my name and then the dude comes out and I load them into the boot.
Buy a car, and then forget to visit the in-laws. LOLI’m still not taking the family to visit in-laws by bus.![]()
This place is in Bryanston. Just need to make sure I get a property agent with the right sort of clientele. It's not a particularly expensive property but I think with the previous marketing attempt, the fact that the place was empty and we were still sort of fresh out of Covid, didn't help.My place sold within 3 months. Had it on the market in November by the end of Jan I had an OTP. JHB North. Transfer for new owner went through last week.

My old home was also in Bryanston and sold pretty quick. Generally a great area, and should take long, maybe your agent is useless. Ive sent you a PM for a great agent in the area, maybe he can helpThis place is in Bryanston. Just need to make sure I get a property agent with the right sort of clientele. Find it hilarious that people are losing their minds because they need photo ID to vote today.
It’s strange that it’s such a foreign concept here when we’ve grown up needing our ID books for just about everything in SA.
Or they could just do... a postal vote!Find it hilarious that people are losing their minds because they need photo ID to vote today.

We sent ours in almost two weeks ago.
I miss having an ID card. It simplifies many things and is a decent layer of security compared to anyone knowing your name, address, and date of birth getting away with murder.
Indeed, it’s one of the ways that Bulgarian gang was able to swindle DWP out of £54mil.
