Do the tax non res thing. It's just safer when the SA govt decides they need to squeeze expats. You know they don't give a rats ass about treaties or pulling out of them.
But if you still have an RA then you cant, correct?

The sad reality is that I'm also going to have to work passed 67 as well ... Oh well, maybe I can win the lotto or start a business of my own
Well, my original idea (way back), was to always go into teaching maths/science once I complete working in Industry.

My mortgage ends when I turn 70
By the time I get to buy a place, mine would end when I am 85. I plan to die at 87

Have a look at the overpayment calculator. It's amazing how many years you can chop off by paying in a little extra. With most mortgages you can overpay monthly by 10% without penalties.

My employer appears to be fundamentally opposed to the principle of overpaying mortgages.
We had our manager briefing for increases last week:
"average wage inflation in the sector is 8%. We recognise that the job market is bouyant and new hires will come in at much higher salaries than people who've been here a while. Wage inflation among our peers is 6 percent. So our increase target is 4% on average" and then the benchmarks come in at 2%.

The strategy I have in mind is that when my Mrs gets here and completes her studies is to take her entire salary and throw it into fixed deposit. Do this for 3 years (average starting salary for Solicitors & Barristers is very good), then we should have around £150k for a deposit for a house, alternatively we save it for 5-6 years and buy a place (we set ourselves the target of £300k for the house). My salary isn't 6 digits, but its a comfortable amount for us to live on.
I know plans don't always work out, but we will damn well make it try.
I want the house paid for ASAP so that we can throw as much into the pensions as possible. Thankfully she is 16 years my junior, so I have more time to build up her pension.

No, i'm serious actually.
Here in ZA we deal with the devil we know. UK is a completely different ball game.
Weather is terrible - you will get depression if you are acclimatised to a lot of sunshine.
Prices are sky high if you are spending ZAR there, but if you are earning in pounds sterling then that's fine. The crime issue there is getting worse and worse as days go by due to their unchecked immigration of muslims and fanatics.
Their culture is also a "politically corrrect" one where you have to toe the line and do as they tell you to, for example pronouns etc.

Have two quotes for household shipping, need one more for the office to cover cost. Surprisingly not as expensive as I thought.
One company even suggested shipping our car over, has anyone done that lol? Cars are quite cheap here so don't know if it's even worth it

And my fiancée's uncle got murdered on Saturday for his car in SA - and people wonder why I am getting her and my daughter out of SA ASAP.
I live in the UK which means I earn pounds, spend pounds, and live a far more comfortable life than I did in SA. If you live here then you aren't spending Rands, you are spending Pounds because that's what you are earning. Prices are relative.
And I ****ing love the weather here. I am happiest when it is raining. But you clearly do not know the UK weather. It rains most days, but on a normal day it will rain for an hour or two and then the sun comes out, which means on a beautiful Summers day it will rain around midday and then the afternoon it clears up and you have the most stunning weather. I would say you get as many rainy days as you get in KZN (I am talking raining from sunrise to sunset).
Your post gives off "I can't leave and I am bitter than other people can." No country is perfect, but SA is pretty ****ed right now.
The little ray of hope with the GNU is cause for celebration but I will give it 10 years before I even think about moving back, but I will probably just use my Pounds to buy a holiday home for when I come visit.
Spoken like someone who has never spent any great deal of time in the UK and just reads nonsense online.
We are considering sending a few boxes over expecting it to cost an arm and a leg. But will get quotes at some point.
Decided I am taking the PS5 over at least. Can’t be arsed selling it.
