I discovered about a 100 miles of canal cycle tracks. It's great cycling along them.Heck I havent owned a bicycle in 15 years prior to moving to the UK, but saw myself cycle a 68km from Guildford to Brighton the other day.
I no longer like big cities, if anything, I find myself looking at properties even more rural in the countryside.
I would assume no choice ? If you have to be in at work, then staying in or near london is the only choice. Train ticket prices are mad.
Looking at Reading for example. Traveling daily to london is about 1000 pounds a month. Cheaper to find a place in London
I drive from Aylesbury to Chesham, take the Metro line in. Daily cost, with parking, is £20.8 (Zone 9 to Zone 1). Diesel costs me a whopping £20 a month to do those 4 trips to Chesham and back.Reading to London is probably the most expensive commute, mile for mile.
Rather move to somewhere in Hampshire, Surrey or West Sussex. Also much prettier than Reading!
Or even Aylesbury or surrounds...

I started with 2x gumtree bikes @ 30 & 40 quid respectively.
Then got a 2nd hand hard tail followed by a full suspension mtb. Its addictive and relaxing.
Yep, best to buy cheap:

Our entire town is linked with pedestrian and cycle lanes. Loads of green belt single track too.I plan on getting back into cycling and daily walks when I move. I’ve tried both here and it’s never a great experience. I detest walking in the road and the lack of proper pedestrian pavements and paths is a big issue for me.
gloves
Meh just have it insured.

Or rent if that's an option in the UK.

I stay in a small town, kids leave their bicycles outside on the front yard unchained. It's quite refreshing walking the paths and seeing scooters and bicycles just laying there as the kids are probably off to the nearby parks without a care in the world.
This is a good place to start:Were about are these canal cycle tracks? We have a few near us but they tend to just stop abruptly after a few miles.
EL and gnr are the same price from reading. I take EL when going to work and GNR when going to londonOverland or the Elizabeth Line?
I'll be following this thread closely as my wife and I are exiting SA in the next 18 - 24 months.
Procrastinate much?Six years later....
And our one way flights are booked for the 20th of July.
