Implats workers want to double wages

Wow, was just reading that Australian miners get 1500-2500 Aussie dollars per week

Another figure I found for what australian miners earn is: 84,000.00 AUD = 711,211.43 ZAR per year. Hectic!

By the looks of things, we can afford to pay those miners a little more, and at the same time bring more people into the middle class, which in turn would lead to a more stable and safe country.

Im changing jobs and moving countries! jk
you can not convert things. Did the report tell you that they aussies pay 500 aussie dollars a week for rent?

You can not do it that way.

Ghoti said it's economics 101. Which is first year. So I was rebutting AT THAT LEVEL. Too hard for you to fathom?

I actually thought they would cover the worlds most successful economic model in economics101. My bad, I was wrong.

What... they get real houses!!!?!?! Why not shacks or hostels?

Well then he obviously went to a better varsity than you.

wtf?

Economics 1 is about basics dude. Supply and demand. You don't study complex calculus before you have a handle on algebra... or do you at a "better varsity"?

I meant his varsity taught more complex economics at first year level than yours, the better ones do more in a year. Or is that too hard for you to fathom?

She said rent not get:whistle:

Strange, cause Im looking at mining jobs with housing allowances in Australia. Wow. This is on top of the mining super tax that the Australians have (might be wrong, not sure if its implemented yet).

Nope, not too hard for me to fathom. The fusion of history 101 into economics 101 is just too much for me though, as is the glib tossing around of complex economic models where chaos theory is probably more appropriate than anything else, as "it's economics 101".

Anyway, I'm at unisa. I know it's not the best, but then again I am also working so my options are limited.

Just a FYI. If the miners get paid a more fair wage it will uplift South Africa. Sure the shareholders will suffer a tiny bit on their bottom line but operations will still be profitable. However, the knock on affect for more miners getting better salaries would be of massive positive impact to SA. The bigger your middle class, the more stable, healthier, educated, etc your society becomes.

Linky?
Still you can not convert it.

You cannot use the basics and forget to include history, I know it is two seperate subjects, but they are quite intertwined. As was quoted, some countries have outdone what should've been possible theoretically. So it's fine if you argue basics, but you have to remember that actual examples will always trump theory.

Nothing wrong with Unisa, except their admin.

Well, say I am an international mining baron based in London. I have a mine in South Africa and a mine in Australia. Both are gold mines. If I can afford to pay to get the gold out of Australia at X I can do the same for South Africa at that price.

I don't think so. Are gold deposits in Aus at the same depths as SA gold deposits?

No you can't. How deep is the gold?
How do you extract the gold?
Where do the equipment comes from?
Where does the gold get shipped to?
How productive is your mine?

Compare it with ZAmbia?

I dont know. Are they?

So again you're making pronouncements without having all the facts.

Australian gold mines seem to max out around 1000m depth

South africa has the deepest mines in the world. Over 3.5km deep in places.

I'm sure someone as smart as you can work out that it costs a LOT more to extract minerals from that much deeper, right?

If this continues many of the marginal mines will close. What will the strikers do with no jobs?

Next month South Africa will officially be in a job recession.
