Important DA announcement expected

He's obviously not the best man or woman for the job and in this case the DA is picking someone of colour to hopefully dispel the notion that they're a white party. I think they'e shooting themselves in the foot - they need to decide whether they pick the best for the job regardless of colour or admit that they're playing the racial game (which plays into the hands of the ANC). If they must pick on colour then convince De Lille to go for the job but it sounds from what ghoti is saying that the membership is bent on colour so Mmusi would win but not De Lille.

I dont know what leadership wants, that's you kinda adding your own narrative to this. I am making my own personal choice on the experiences I have had with Mmusi. I cant think of a white guy who is articulate and leads like Mmusi does. Athol can deliver a decent speech in three languages but his style is very different to Mmusi. DeLille is not even in the same ball park as Mmusi or Athol and has nowhere near the support to be leader of the party. No one directs us voters on how we should vote. We all vote for who personally want as our leader.

I like the DA (and they have my vote) and I trust that Cape Town is doing its best to optimise service delivery. However CoCT is always troubling me with their decision making, they always deny their involvement in many instances, should it be a new logo, new developments or even the Newland/Cape Town Stadium debacle there is always a story to spin. When the public is in their agreement they claim the throne, when the public disagrees… they play hide and seek or they systematically work towards an end goal by involving third-parties. This is the reason why I cannot back De Lille, her administration can be doubted at times.

The notion of colour/race being a factor is a half truth. Yes it would make a difference in terms of addressability BUT thats only half the story.. he is the most charismatic of party recently? which i think plays a bigger role. If Lindiwe was considered for running i think the DA would actually lose votes not because of race/gender but simply because she is a lesser speaker?

In regards to experience etc needed.. odd question to ask, but I suppose in SA context it makes sense. When you look at the US its a populous vote rather than experience so why should SA be any different? In the end popularity & powerful speakers are what drives the polls for minority parties which dont have blind legions of the populous who vote for them regardlessly

I dont know anything about any of the issues you bring up. If there is corruption or maladministration you should report it right away.

Im also a fan of more liberal leadership in Cape Town, but I am not in Cape Town so play no part and have no say in leadership for that city and province.

Precisely the reason I don't trust them. I have seen this spin so many times.

As for corruption, why is this fraudster Michael Toko still a councillor?

Ah, first world problems. Meanwhile in the rest of the country, we're dealing with what resembles a war zone... :p

If your definition of CoCT excludes the gangland war zone that is the coloured areas of CT and the black areas with the rampant vigilante justice.

Ssshhhhhh, we don't talk about that. Beaches and Mountain - focus R13...

Which is completely true, however with the options the DA has available and by looking at the organisational structure I would appreciate either Athol Trollip or Mmusi Maimane at the top, Mmusi being my primary choice. I believe in organisational structures, the accountability and the responsibility therein, and without a balanced (and transparent) structure there is no democracy.

Dont let R13 hear you say that. He doesnt believe a black man can become the leader of the DA by his ability. Which is sad. Says a lot about how he perceives people :(

What was the result of that fraud trial?
The DA has been 'investigating' since 2013.

Same with the councillor who assaulted a constituent on camera (and doesn't deny it). Why isn't he fired?

I don't know, maybe by doing something about the socio-economic conditions of the folks?

The western capes population is increasing as many people migrate there for better socio-economic opportunities. Even with this influx of people, unemployment is the province is coming down. The DA has run the city better than anyone else. Theyre not perfect, but they are better than anyone else who has been there before them. The majority of the cities budget is spent on disadvantaged people.

I understand thats not good enough for you and your multiple levels of standards but what else can they do?

Im asking about the court case. What was the result of the trial?

This sounds like a typical ANC "let's work together" message. A general statement that doesn't really say much or provide actual solutions, just something that sounds vaguely positive enough to allow you to continue doing nothing.

What actual solutions can be implemented in order to "do something about the socio-economic conditions of the folks"?

Not to mention the taxis blocking roads in Kirstenhof and being treated like royalty by law enforcement.

Lol no. Let's take Lindiwe, during the fallout following her leaving it emerged that HZ had been bailing her bacon a few times. Who's to say given that particular sour incident that Mmusi isn't just some figurehead with the real decisions being made by others in the back office? Just going by history here, Lindiwe was after all being "groomed" as the next potential DA leader.

And you say the voters (for the leader) make up their own minds but then who can say whether or not those decisions are clouded by a need to front the party as more inclusive to fight the all white male image many believe. Real or imagined.
