I'm going to be importing an iMac (27inch) From the States. What's the best way to go about doing this? Note: A friend of mine will be in States for two weeks early next year.

He can. Is that the best option?
It depends - if he ends up paying excess baggage fees its going to be a very expensive iMac.

And he'll need money on hand to pay customs.

Go to Amazon, find out the shipping weight and start looking around for couriers.

Just remember that you will not have any support in SA if something goes wrong. Apple is quite clear on that - also the local guys refuse to work on it if you did not buy it from them. Imported one myself and had exactly that problem. If you are planning on doing it you better make sure your warranty cards are sent in and that you have an address listed in the states. that way you can say you are visiting from the states and the thing konked out on you. Everything these days are linked via the serial numbers.
