HELP:

I want to cancel my Cell C contract. I phoned them to do this. They said that I must send an email to [email protected]. I have done this but they just do not respond.

Hellopeter has lots of complaints about Cell C not cancelling contracts, but they continue to bill you month after month.

HELP: what do I do?

You can always ask your bank to block debit orders from CellC.

Only do this if you're sure your contract of 24 months have expired, and you owe them nothing.

Prepaid FTW!!! :D

I never had a problem. I sent them a fax, phoned to make sure they received the fax, and that was the end of that..

Not Much you can do if you singed a binding monthly contract, other than refusing to continue paying I suppose?

How to cancel your Cell C contract!

From my experience with customers wanting to cancel :

As per the contract you need to give 1 months written calendar notice. Cell C suggests that this notice be given via FAX to their number 08414329

Make sure in the fax you state your ID number and your telephone number, and your contact numbers, everything clear and legible, then fax it and keep a copy of the transmission receipt for your records.

Give it a day or two and then phone customer service on 084 140 and confirm that they have received your faxed instruction and ask them what your end date will then be.

Please do not just cancel debit orders with the bank, as this does nothing but harm your credit profile at the credit bureaus, and this nobody wants.

Thanks man. Going to follow your procedure to the letter. Just for the record, my 24 month contract is finished.

What happens if after you have done the procedure but Cell C continues to charge you. From the complaints on HP it appears this is the norm. what recourses does one have, besides fighting with them left right and centre. Would cancelling the debit order then be acceptable and would it affect your credit profile?

Also, I would love to see the sunset policy on a contract fall away - that once it is finished the number is put on "hold" until you renew or cancel the contract.

This would be extremely odd, as you would have had confirmation verbally that it has been actioned and they would have confirmed your end date, you must also ask them what date the final debit order will be goign through.

If you still have a problem PM me your details then and I will take it up for you. Please keep the fax transmission report, cancellation letter and make a note of the date/time you called customer service and the agents name you spoke to. ie give me the ammunition and a battle can be fought and won.

I dont know. When I originally sent through my emails I must have sent it about five times over the course of two weeks prior to making this post. I just kept sending it. The day after my last post above, I got a phone call from Cell C saying they had received my email and wanted to know the reason for cancellation. I told them and then they said it was okay and that my contract would terminate on 29th February 2008. I asked for it to be put in writing and sent to my email address that I had sent the query from.

And hour later a second Cell C person phoned and I went through the entire procedure a second time. The next day a third time, then a fourth and then a fifth.

On the fourth time I happened to be with a friend and after the call I told him that I had repeated the telephone calls four times so far. he laughed and said they are deliberately doing it because you kept bombarding them with emails. I said they would never do that, but true as bob an hour later that fifth phone call came.

Needless to say I never receieved a single email confirming my contract was cancelled nor confirming the five phone calls.

So at this stage I am waiting for 1st of March to see if my phone works or not.

It really is a joke.

That sounds like the call centre agents were reading and actionining the emails but without actually checking the system first to see the last status update. Rather stupid of them, it only takes a second longer to read the last updated details on your account.

Just to report back: My contract was successfully cancelled. On the 29th Feb 2008 in the middle of the afternoon, my contract number became prepaid.
