Inbound Connections / Unrestricted APN (Now Testing!)

Do you want/need an APN that allows connections initiated from outside the APN?

Last week I applied for the unrestricted APN to be activated on a second SIM.

Over the weekend I changed the APN to 'unrestricted' and was able to connect, but couldn't get any incoming connections.

I found out that this SIM was only activated yesterday, and last night I was able to get incoming connections.

Does this mean anyone can connect to the unrestricted APN, but they won't get incoming ports?
IIRC, on Vodacom if you weren't provisioned for the unrestricted APN you couldn't connect to it.
Is there an easy way to tell if you are provisioned for unrestricted or not?

On one of my stock standard prepaid Cell C sims, I can use "internet" or "unrestricted" for the APN.
Data connection is allowed on both, with normal outbound only.

Looks like they don't prevent you using APN = "unrestricted" like Vodacom does.

For normal (non provisioned) users, it seems like "internet" = "unrestricted".

However, if you are provisioned, then "internet" gives you outbound only and "unrestricted" gives you inbound as well.
 
just got kicked out of xbox live, ping non existent download shocking upload shocking what the hell is going on unrestricted apn still in place cell c please sort out the network!!!!!??????
 
Generally, I am noticing a drop in performance on my CCTV test systems and TeamViewer remote, toward the evening.

I imagine this is to do with network load.
Maybe an increase in user connections (people returning home to the suburb after work) , downloading, surfing, gaming etc.

Speed tests (download) during the day can get up to 6.8Mbps on my 7.2Mbps spec modems (pretty good), but in the late afternoon, evening the average is around 2.3Mbps.

This I am in agreement with you, notice huge degradation in the network from early evening until late morning Cell C please sort my speed tests are very similar to the quoted above
 
Time frame for unrestricted APN access

CellC - How long does it take to be put on the unrstricted APN, I've applied last week and sent all info.

Unrestricted APN working very well however the network is shocking.....and that is all I'm going to say, tired of shouting!
 
Would not know if it is or isn't related to the unrestricted APN, had a problem last night the modem was disconnecting the error was" the dns server or address could not be completed" this is the second time this week.

Well, in case anyone else is experiencing this (and would rather not), according to https://www.google.com/support/websearch/bin/answer.py?answer=873 ...

Are we sending you to the wrong Google domain? For example, you’re located in Australia (www.google.com.au) but you’re being sent to the Google domain for the United Kingdom (www.google.co.uk). If so, we may be detecting your IP address incorrectly.

There is a Report IP Problems page here where Google can be informed about the incorrect redirection, after which they will "do [their] best to resolve the issue."

Just checked and both my CCTV test sites (IP 41.55.x.x) are working ok on the unrestricted APN.
Also both my test GPS tracker units are sending inbound updates ok as well.

Although, I did have to reset one of the modems earlier today as the TP-Link MR3220 router status only showed "connecting", even though the ZTE MF-190 modem showed a solid green indication. (network available, but APN not connecting)
Still not sure why that happened.

What you have described below is exactly what is happening to me however I have rebooted, switched off and reset to factory mode....................and still nothing.Have connected on the normal APN and it works perfectly however I get a moderate NAT on Xbox Live

Yip, the Unrestricted APN is officially on AWOL tried everything the modem will only work on the normal settings INTERNET

Cell_C please could you assist? There is no way in hell I am phoning the tech dept at cell c,be on hold all night!

Same with me... Unrestricted APN was fine last night... today it gives me an error and will not connect. (error 619)
What is going on??i have noticed that the network has been very slow these last few days. Gears 3 is all but unplayable. Massive lag.
I hope it get's sorted out soon :(
 
Just been on the line with the tech department for 26mins half way through explaining what the problem was they cut me off,ever since LARS left Cell C the company has become a redundant fart factory all bark no bite

Catch a wake up Cell C!!!!!!!!!

One of my CCTV test sites is not responding this morning.
Have to take a drive over there and see what's croaked....not sure if it's APN related.

My other site on the unrestricted APN is working ok though.

Update: 20h23
Could not really find anything concrete.
Reset modem, router and CCTV recorder and all ok again. (till the next time!)
