Intel i7 Core - buy now or wait?

No i am just saying that is you overclock a bit you won't need a higher spec cpu :).

indeed, you are correct. Thing is , I don't need to OC all that much, seen as with the current setup, I can keep up with everything with great ease.

i7 920's have also been proven to be really good cpu's for OC

Yeah idol is right. It's really not that incredibly expensive to get i7 if you're going to get a high end system anyway. And 2ndhand is the way to go - idol's a legend on Prophecy forums :D

I worked it out, it's costing me R1800 more to get a I7 system with 6GB if ram then it would to get a Q9550 system with 4GB.

I'm getting:
P6T asus board
I7 920
6GB mushkin ram
CM690
750W Toughpower PSU
4870 1GB Toxic
1TB HDD

All for +- R16 000

Mmm - that's really not that much extra to get i7

Oh dear - decisions decisions :)

Well I'll tell you how it goes, my system will be complete 14th of April, have half of it already.

I had to go through this i7 decision too, I just thought if I'm speding that much money I might as well get the newest stuff possible.

So yeah about 2 months ago I got myself:

i7 920,
DFI UT mobo,
Super Talent 6GB DDR3-1333,
500GB Seagate 7200.12,
Asus 4870 512MB ,
An 850W PSU (can’t remember the brand),
DVD-Writer,
Aerocool Zerodegree Gaming Chassis

Which all came out at about R17,500. As i said it was about R2,000 more.

Got 2 of them running at the moment (both at 3.5) and loving them, well worth the extra cost.
