I wouldn't say it is the best. Best for gaming, maybe but not otherwise, not in my opinion.
Even with Nvidia's recent chipsets there have been many users complaining of data corruption from either bad firmware or drivers for the IDE controller.
That is not acceptable in my book.
Besides, Nvidia haven't been playing in the field long enough for me to trust them yet.

Not really. The best chipset for both AMD and Intel right now is from NVIDIA.
For Pentium4 and earlier sure, NVIDIA didn't really care...
However AMD's success in the retail market picked up dramatically after NVIDIA started making their chipsets.
