I wouldn't say it is the best. Best for gaming, maybe but not otherwise, not in my opinion.

Even with Nvidia's recent chipsets there have been many users complaining of data corruption from either bad firmware or drivers for the IDE controller.

That is not acceptable in my book.

Besides, Nvidia haven't been playing in the field long enough for me to trust them yet.

That's just my personal experience.

Not really. The best chipset for both AMD and Intel right now is from NVIDIA.
For Pentium4 and earlier sure, NVIDIA didn't really care...

However AMD's success in the retail market picked up dramatically after NVIDIA started making their chipsets.

If you had to upgrade like in right now..... buy an AMD with a mid range mobo. Save your money and wait it out till AMD brings out there new CPU and decide then.

Otherwise get an AMD with a high end mobo that you're sure will be compatable with the new AMD CPU.

I'm happy with my Intel ATM, and I can only upgrade next year so I'll wait it out.

no ways man if amd come up good its good core 2 and hello my AMD, i only bash amd because i feel ripped off but listening to comments i see thats how business works and im fine about it now :)

BRING IT ON AMD

hmm, I don't know. QuadroPlex, and all rendering machines/servers making use of NVIDIA Quadro graphics cards are on their platforms. Now consider that almost all rendering done either at movie, commercial or even privately uses Quadro cards I think their fairly reliable.

Opinion or not, no aftermarket chipset sells as much as the nForce series.
There's a reason for that I think.

I still can't believe that it's such a close result thus far... Seems the Core2Duo range had quite an impact...

Yeah it has, with some previous AMD users (I wouldn't call them fans if they jump all the way over so quickly and fervantly) who now are like "dont touch AMD with a 10metre pole man"

those so called fan are ppl who paid nearly 1700 rand for a 3400+ then saw the core 2 e6300 for less when it came out and then suddenly a 3400 was 850.

Yes, or me that paid R600 for a Celeron 400. Man, they screwed me good, I can get a 3.4GHz for that price now >: (

Hehehe, Im glad you knew I was talking about you killadoob, hey reply to that graphics card thread man... LOVE

The Intel cuts of around 33% will make things interesting. Still, the cheapest Intel dualcore will still be twice the price of the cheapest AMD dualcore....

Look at my new thread - think it is a good time for all to start supporting AMD if you have a choice. The last thing we all need is for Intel to squeeze the trigger at this junction and keep undercutting AMD. That will result in either AMD going out of business or being bought out by someone like IBM. Both options are not that attractive right now.

IBM couldn't afford to buy AMD even if they sold all their assets. That's not going to happen. It's pretty much unlikely anyone could buy AMD apart from a super rich electronics giant like Samsung, and that is even more unlikely...

Intel has posted bigger losses than that successively, it isn't the end of the world. Success in retail market won't really change anything in the short term or for the upcoming quarter.

I was AMDs biggest fan and got more power per watt,at reasonable price. But
lets face it they had a great 3yr run with the athlon 64's and were tops despite being David to the goliath's of intel.
Looking at core2duo is like watching the Terminator 2 movie when the T1000 just annihilates Arnie!(Guess who's who)
At the moment im core2duo but in 2 years i just hope AMD gets more power and more micro!

lol... but looking at the amd's now, and they dirt cheap! you can get a amd 5200 for like R2200. and thats a better price than an e6400(R2400 at best), and the fact that the am2 mobo's are seriously cheap, which leaves you more cash for memory or graphics :D

Yeah, putting PC's together for my mates I will always recommend AMD 1st. Bottom-end dual core 3600+ and mobo with onboard 6100 together cost the same as bottom of the range Intel CPU alone. Alos, the cheapest Intel mobo I could find with onboard gfx and DDR800 support comes in at R1300
