Hi,:wtf:

I have come to the conclusion that after hours of reading the forums I am stuck with no answer, and I am to ask of you please help me decide on what ISP to use.

Brake it down for me and everyone who do not understand what ping means and and all this Hi-tech talk. I wish I could follow you clever people.

So firstly I don't want to brake the bank, I want to spend R650 max, and get the most out of it.
I want to dowload torrents,youtube,mp3,avi. but I guess the bit torrent site in South Africa is VIP's only. So have to download from overseas, I dont know what a news server is or how to see whats on it and I read here that its unreliable.
I also read that WIMAX is not that fast and screamer cons they're users, and torrents are throttled.
Which makes me to go to the all power full telkom for a monthly line rental of R114 and say R326 for a 512kbps capable line, wich leaves me with R210 to spend at ISP. which doesn't leave much for uncapped , unlimited or something.

At the moment I use utorrent with greedy torrent, and my protocol is encrypted with 3g and my download speed is 0.3-0.6kbps. and i pay R194.50/gb.

I am so frustrated because there is no real one ISP that I read is good for P2P, torrents, and so on.

if there was a way to share files in South Africa I would jump at a 28gb local internet deal.
what do you spend p/m on internet? For R650 what speed and limits do get? 5gb? thats to little for me, thats 7 avi movies.

first of all, don't get 512k, get 384 - 512 is a rip off!!!!! the difference in speed is MINIMAL

second, go Afrihost - R29 per Gig - fast and reliable. works for torrents, p2p, rapidshare, news servers, EVERYTHING.

With R210 left over you won't get more than 7 GB's or so. That's 10 "avi movies" as you put it;

Perhaps go for a slower line and a higher cap? Or perhaps a 384 line and one of our numerous "reliable" uncapped offerings?

Comes down to what you want out, and what kind of quality of regular browsing you're after, but don't expect to download 20 movies in a month on a torrent client for that money, it's just not going to happen.

+1 384k is fine, might as well upgrade to 4mb seeing as it's only R80 or so more than the 512k.

If you can wait until the 1st of April I'd suggest going with SAINET's uncapped it's R499 and it includes the ADSL line rental but not Telkoms Voice line rental, but toget it's less than R650. Digichilli is even looking better these days and is at least month to month and R48 cheaper than SAINET.

My buddy was on Afrihost but the downloading bug bit hard and used his bought bandwidth very quickly on torrents, anyway he just signed up with Digichilli on Monday and downloads at a constant 30k + from rapidshare , so it seems digichilli are improving and a plus he only had to pay R240 for this month as he tried them in December before he ran out cash :)

DJLotech,

If you are willing to spend an additional R49 you can get a 384kb/s line & uncapped/unshaped account from SAOL.
EDIT: Skip the above idea, see the price went up again.

For R650 you could probably also get a decent amount of unshaped bandwidth from Cybersmart with their Nightrider & Weekender options.
