Hi all :) How are you all? Hope you all are enjoying this lovely afternoon. Well, not me :(

Problem:

I have to keep resetting my router whenever my net connection behaves weirdly (Lags/Unable to load any website/unable to download anything), this fixes the problem temporarily.

It's been like this since last week when our line got upgraded to 2Mb from 1Mb.

Does it indicate that my router (Billion W40 - provided by MWEB) needs to be replaced with a better one?

Here's my router stats:

Code:
DSP Firmware Version E.25.41.55 A
Connected true
Operational Mode G.Dmt
Annex Type AnnexA
Upstream 512000
Downstream 2048000
SNR Margin(Upstream) 13 dB
SNR Margin(Downstream) 24.5 dB
Line Attenuation(Upstream) 24.5 dB
Line Attenuation(Downstream) 46.5 dB
CRC Errors(Upstream) 47228
CRC Errors(Downstream) 0
Latency(Upstream) Fast
Latency(Downstream) Fast

Don't you already have two other threads on this subject?

Getting a new router wouldn't hurt, I really don't like those Billion things. Strangely the most stable modem/router I have used is also the cheapest - bought one of these http://www.scoopdistribution.co.za/product_info.php?cPath=28&products_id=1179 the other day after two other modems we used at our office dropped connection regularly, this one is still rock solid.

The problem I'm experiencing is new. There are 4 PCs/Laptops in my home. So I need to buy a new 4-port router but I'm not convinced that buying a new router will fix the problem :(

The PURPOSE of this thread IS to get information/advice/etc from anyone who experienced a similar problem.

Have you asked Telkom for a port reset?

Hi There,
Your CRC errors look more than a little odd.
I just checked mine and up and down are showing 0.

I suggest a call to Telkom or whoever is managing your connection.

Regards

Tim

CRC Errors(Upstream) 47228 there is your problem

But it's been like this for a long, long time. Never had a problem due to it. Maybe I should finally do something about it.

Will do tomorrow morning but right now my line's stable.

I have this exact same problem ! Started earlier today. I have to reset the router almost every hour, sometimes like 20mins into browsing. Telkom reset the port, but problem still persists. According to them, they've had lots of calls about this today, but cannot confirm if they are having any kind of problem. My line was also upgraded from 1MB to 2MB on Saturday. Been fine since then, but these issues started today. Weird.

Lol! My line too was upgraded to 2Mb from 1Mb last week. Never had this issue when my line was 384K(August '10)/1Mb(October '12).

What router do you have?

Tenda. Not the greatest, but it works well enough for me. It's been stable since I posted here. Hoping it stays that way.

A high CRC error count is a sign that there is a bad connection, noise or faulty cable ..

Same problem I'm experiecing that started 2 or 3 days ago. Didn't upgrade line. Insane upstream crc error count, is fine a few minutes after rebooting modem, over time it becomes so bad the connection just drops. Latency seems unaffected as my ping shows anything from 10 - 40 ms in game, nothing higher. Except for insane packet loss that makes playing impossible.

PS. I'm in Edenvale (JHB).
